Position summary:


The Kilgore College Fire Academy is certified by the Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP), the State Firefighters' and Fire Marshals' Association of Texas, and is approved by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. KCFA offers certification schools for NFPA 1001 Basic Structural Firefighter I and II certification, the Texas Volunteer certification, TCFP additional specialized certification courses.


Position responsibilities
• Associate’s degree with at least 12 years of experience as a full-time, paid, state or local firefighter or fire marshal.

• TCFP Level III TCFP Instructor certification.

• TDH Minimum certification of EMT is required.

• High degree of computer proficiency, including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Highly motivated individual who requires very little close supervision.

• Ability to develop, maintain, and teach online courses.

• Ability to work closely and develop strong relationships with fire professionals within the College’s service area and beyond.

• Ability and willingness to work nights and weekends, on occasion, as needed

• Strong budget and program need assessment skills.
 

Preferred Additional Certifications:
• TCFP Fire Officer III certification, with Fire Officer IV preferred.

• TCFP Advanced Firefighter certification, with Master certification preferred.

• TCFP Fire Inspector certification, with upper-level certification (III or IV) preferred.

• TCFP HazMat Technician certification, with HazMat Incident Commander preferred.

• TDH Paramedic certification is not required, but strongly preferred.


Supervisory Responsibilities:

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
  • No or very limited physical effort required; however, the employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
  • No or very limited exposure to physical risk.


Safety:

  • Provide resources for safe operation of units.
  • Create and support workplace safety.


Salary & Benefits: 

  • 36-hour work week for a healthy work life balance as well generous paid leave time.

  • An excellent retirement program through the Teacher Retirement System or Optional Retirement Plan ‘ORP’ for full time faculty.
  • Full Time employees have free use of the college’s recreational/fitness facilities
  • Full Time employees are eligible for the Public Student Loan Forgiveness (PLSF) after 10 years of service.
  • Tuition scholarships are for the employee and dependents. 
  • Compensation for this 12-month position is based on years of teaching at institutions of higher education, and highest level of education. Base pay for no experience ranges from $56,069 for an associate's degree to $69,191 for a doctorate. Base pay for candidates meeting the position’s minimum requirements (Associate’s degree + 12 years of experience) starts at $64,284 and ranges up to $70,745 for a candidate who holds a Master’s degree and the maximum of 15 years of experience. A $10,000 stipend for Director duties is paid separately.

All full-time positions are located in Kilgore, TX. No fully work from home positions are available at this time. All employees must be available to physically present to work on the Kilgore, TX or Longview, TX Campus. Some Part-Time and Adjunct positions may be offsite but the candidate MUST live in the State of Texas.
