MKA is a multi-discipline, full-service firm providing architectural, engineering, and construction administration services from offices in Wheeling, Charleston, and Martinsburg, WV, and Pittsburgh, PA. While educational, commercial/retail, industrial, governmental, and institutional building design has been the company's primary focus throughout its 40-year history, an expansion into sports design following the acquisition of renowned JTSA Sports in 2023 has created exciting new projects and opportunities for talented architects, engineers, and designers alike. In early 2025 MKA transacted with MCF Architecture, the longest-running architectural firm in Western PA. MCF has expansive qualifications in healthcare, higher education, performing arts, civic, liturgical, and commercial spaces. Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist in development of initial design concepts utilizing a combination or Google Earth, AutoCAD and/or Civil 3D as appropriate.
  • Collaborate and communicate effectively with project team members to create design solutions
  • Generate 3D Renderings and planning-level design documents utilizing AutoCAD.
  • Produce maps, diagrams, and profiles using cross-sections and surveys to represent elevations, topographical contours, subsurface formations, and structures.
  • Draft plan and profile views of improvement plans, such as street, storm drain, sewer, water and other underground improvements, using dynamic labels and other methods.
  • Draft plan views of detailed and rough grading plans
  • Create and manipulate construction details and cross sections.
  • Assist in the review of designs for consistency, safety, operability, and maintenance requirements

Requirements
  • Associates degree or vocational training program in Design and Drafting Technology
  • 5+ years of civil design experience
  • Foundational knowledge of civil engineering concepts such as grading and storm drainage.
  • Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in the production of precision technical plans, drawings, and exhibits.
  • Experience in detail and design development, construction documents, construction administration
  • Proficiency in AutoDesk, Civil 3D and/or Infrastructure Suite
  • Experience using SketchUp, Revit, Lumion, and GIS preferred
  • Professional verbal and written communication skills
