Associate Capital information

What is an associate capital?

Associate Capital professionals, often called Capital Associates or Investment Associates, are early- to mid-career finance professionals who support capital investment activities for firms such as venture capital, private equity, or investment banks. They assist with financial analysis, due diligence, deal sourcing, and portfolio management. Their role is critical in helping senior partners evaluate investment opportunities and manage relationships with clients and stakeholders. Associate Capital professionals typically have strong analytical skills and may have backgrounds in finance, economics, or business.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an associate capital?

To thrive as an Associate in Capital Markets, you need strong analytical abilities, financial modeling expertise, and a solid educational background in finance, economics, or a related field. Familiarity with Bloomberg Terminal, Excel, and financial databases, as well as certifications like the CFA, are commonly required. Outstanding communication, attention to detail, and the ability to perform under pressure help associates stand out. These skills are essential to accurately assess market opportunities, support deal execution, and maintain client relationships in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment.

What are some common challenges faced by associate capital when working on deal sourcing and evaluation?

Associate Capital professionals often encounter challenges such as managing tight deadlines, balancing multiple deals at different stages, and conducting thorough due diligence with limited information. Collaborating closely with senior team members and other stakeholders is crucial, as associates are responsible for initial screenings, financial modeling, and preparing investment memos. Developing strong organizational skills and attention to detail is key to succeeding in this fast-paced environment.

A capital market associate supports the execution of debt and equity transactions, such as bond issuances and stock offerings, by conducting financial analysis, preparing documentation, and coordinating with clients and internal teams. They often work in investment banks or financial firms and need strong analytical skills and knowledge of financial markets. The role typically involves working under tight deadlines and using financial modeling tools.

Job description

About the Role

Weโ€™re hiring an Associate Financial Advisor to immediately take over an existing group of client relationships at our Toledo-based RIA.

This is not a sales role, and there are no prospecting or production quotas. Your focus is the creation and execution of financial advice and delivering a high-end client experience for clients already working with our firm.

Youโ€™ll sit between operations and senior planning: running reviews, building and maintaining plans, coordinating implementation, and making sure clients feel informed, prioritized, and well taken care of.

What Youโ€™ll Do

  • Take immediate ownership of an assigned book of existing client relationships.
  • Serve as the primary day-to-day contact for these clients via email, phone, and review meetings.
  • Build and maintain financial plans using our established process and tools.
  • Deliver clear, practical recommendations on retirement, investments, cash flow, tax-aware strategies, and basic estate structure.
  • Translate recommendations into concrete action items and ensure execution (account changes, transfers, distributions, Roth conversions, beneficiary updates, etc.).
  • Coordinate closely with our operations/meeting prep team to ensure every meeting is well-prepared and every follow-up is completed.
  • Keep Salesforce fully updated with accurate notes, tasks, and client details โ€” no loose ends or โ€œmental notes.โ€
  • Identify gaps or opportunities (idle cash, old accounts, missing documents, misaligned allocations) and proactively address them.
  • Recognize when situations require advanced planning or complexity and escalate cleanly to senior advisors with a concise summary.

What You Bring

  • 3+ years of experience in a financial services role (RIA, bank, broker-dealer, or planning firm).
  • Series 65 or similar license (or ability to obtain in a clearly defined timeframe), CFP or professional designation heavily preferred.
  • Solid working knowledge of IRAs/401(k)s, brokerage accounts, basic tax concepts, RMDs, Roth strategies, Social Security/Medicare timing, and risk management.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills โ€” you can explain complex topics in plain language, in writing and in meetings.
  • Detail-oriented and organized, comfortable working in a CRM and following a task-based workflow.
  • Comfortable owning relationships and being accountable for outcomes, while collaborating closely with senior advisors and operations.

About Croak Capital

Croak Capital is a Toledo-based wealth management firm serving successful families who expect more than basic investment management. We focus on:

  • Time Maximization โ€“ acting as a personal representative so clients spend less time coordinating advisors.
  • Advanced Wealth Strategy โ€“ research-backed planning and portfolio management.
  • Complex Asset Management โ€“ business exits, pre-IPO investment opportunities, and real estate management focus and optimization.

This role is central to delivering consistent, high-quality advice and experience to a key group of existing clients.

What We Offer

  • Above market base salary aligned with experience.
  • Performance-based bonus tied to client satisfaction, retention, and execution quality.
  • 401(k) with employer contribution.
  • Health insurance package.
  • Flexible PTO and firm holidays.
  • Clear path to grow into a more senior advisory or planning role.
