Job description

The Bay Pines VA Healthcare System is seeking an experienced and board-certified Plastic Surgeon to serve as Chief of Plastic Surgery. This key leadership role requires comprehensive expertise in general plastic and reconstructive surgery as well as Hand Surgery, with opportunities to build and lead an advanced surgical service that serves Veterans throughout southwest Florida. The selected candidate will oversee clinical operations, staff development, and surgical quality initiatives.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Deliver expert surgical care in the full spectrum of general plastic and reconstructive procedures, with particular emphasis on Hand Surgery, wound management, and post-oncologic reconstruction.
  • Serve as the administrative and clinical leader of the Plastic Surgery Section, including oversight of surgical scheduling, quality assurance, and staff supervision.
  • Supervise and mentor attending surgeons, residents, fellows, advanced practice providers, and support staff.
  • Collaborate closely with departments such as Orthopedics, General Surgery, Dermatology, and Wound Care to provide comprehensive, multidisciplinary care.
  • Lead development and implementation of evidence-based practices and clinical protocols aligned with VA guidelines.
  • Participate in hospital committees, quality initiatives, and performance improvement programs.
  • Engage in academic activities, including resident teaching and scholarly contributions, as appropriate.
