Job description

Automation Engineer
Join the team at Eck Industries, a leader in aluminum casting and innovation for over 75 years. We're looking for an Automation Engineer who will oversee all aspects of facility automation, including programming, integration, and optimization of robotic and PLC systems, to enhance manufacturing efficiency, reliability, and cost-effectiveness while supporting continuous improvement across operations.
What You'll Do:
  • Program, troubleshoot, and maintain FANUC robotic systems and advanced PLCs using Ladder Logic, Structured Text, and Function Block.
  • Monitor and optimize robotic programs and PLC code to improve system efficiency, reliability, and performance.
  • Integrate automation hardware, including PLCs, robotic controls, HMIs, safety systems, managed switches, VFDs, servo drives, and sensors (discrete and IO-Link).
  • Assist with installation, commissioning, and startup of new automation equipment and systems.
  • Create and maintain documentation including BOMs, electrical schematics, and control system drawings in accordance with company standards.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, and modify automated systems to ensure continuous operation and minimal downtime.
  • Maintain and support data collection systems, historian tools, and SCADA platforms.
  • Collaborate with engineers and cross-functional teams to support new projects and continuous improvement initiatives.

What We're Looking For
  • Minimum of 5 years of industrial automation experience, with emphasis on PLC programming and robotic integration.
  • Proficiency with Rockwell Automation software, including Studio 5000 and FactoryTalk.
  • Experience programming FANUC robots required.
  • Knowledge of Inductive Automation's Ignition SCADA and CNC machining centers is a plus.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and automation system diagrams.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong commitment to safety, quality, organization, and continuous improvement.

Education
  • Associate's degree or equivalent in Electro-Mechanical Technology, Automation Engineering Technology, or a related field preferred.
