Associate Auction information

What is an associate auction?

An Associate Auction is a professional who supports the operations and logistics of auction events, often within art, automobile, real estate, or other auction houses. They typically assist with cataloging items, managing bidder registrations, preparing auction materials, and ensuring smooth event execution. Associate Auction professionals may also help with marketing efforts, client communications, and post-auction follow-up. Their role is essential to ensuring auctions run efficiently and successfully.

What are some typical challenges faced by an associate auction professional during the preparation and execution of auctions?

Associate Auction professionals often encounter challenges such as managing tight timelines, coordinating with multiple stakeholders, and ensuring the accuracy of item descriptions and documentation. They must handle logistics for item transportation, cataloging, and setting up displays, all while maintaining close communication with clients, bidders, and senior auction staff. Attention to detail and adaptability are crucial, as unexpected issues—like last-minute consignments or bidder inquiries—can arise and require prompt, solutions-oriented responses.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an associate auction, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Associate Auction, you need strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a background in art history, business, or a related field. Familiarity with auction software platforms, inventory management systems, and sometimes certifications in appraisal or auctioneering are typically required. Excellent communication, customer service, and teamwork abilities help build client relationships and facilitate smooth auction operations. These skills ensure accurate cataloging, effective sales processes, and a positive experience for clients and stakeholders in a fast-paced auction environment.

What is the difference between Associate Auction vs Auction Coordinator?

AspectAssociate AuctionAuction Coordinator
CertificationsTypically requires a basic auction or sales certificationOften requires similar certifications, with additional event planning credentials
Work EnvironmentOffice and auction site, supporting auction processesPrimarily on-site during auction events, coordinating logistics
Employer & IndustryUsed in auction houses, real estate, and charity eventsCommon in auction houses, estate sales, and charity organizations

The main difference is that an Associate Auction primarily supports auction activities behind the scenes, while an Auction Coordinator manages on-site logistics and event execution. Both roles require similar certifications and are used across related industries, but the Coordinator role involves more direct event management responsibilities.

Job description

Description:

About Nellis Auction

Nellis Auction is one of the fastest-growing online auction companies in the US, connecting customers with thousands of quality items every week. Our Customer Success team is the face of that experience — the first smile a customer sees when they arrive and the last impression we leave when they drive away with their items. If you're a people person who also thrives in a fast-paced warehouse environment, this role was made for you.

Schedule

Multiple shifts available across weekdays and weekends. Hours range from 4:30 AM to 7:00 PM — offering flexibility for a wide range of lifestyles and commitments.

About the Role

As a Customer Success Associate, you sit at the intersection of customer experience and warehouse operations. You'll be the frontline representative of Nellis Auction — greeting customers, resolving concerns, managing appointments, verifying orders, and loading out purchases safely and efficiently. Every customer interaction is an opportunity to reflect our core values: Trust, Results, Transparency, Pride, and Fun.

What You'll Do

Customer Experience: Greet every customer with professionalism and a positive attitude, schedule and manage pickup appointments as needed, process refunds and resolve customer concerns quickly and courteously, and serve as the primary point of contact for customers arriving to retrieve their items.

Load-Out Operations: Safely and efficiently load customer-purchased merchandise into vehicles, verify outgoing orders for accuracy before release, use handheld scanners or mobile devices to locate and confirm inventory, maintain organized merchandise racks and consolidation areas, and communicate closely with the broader Customer Experience team to ensure timely, smooth pickups.

General Warehouse Support: Assist with additional warehouse duties as directed by management, follow all company procedures and safety guidelines, and operate warehouse equipment safely and effectively.

Across all functions, you will demonstrate Nellis Auction's core values in every customer and team interaction, maintain daily performance goals, and bring a dependable, solutions-first attitude to every shift.

You'll Thrive Here If You…

Lead with a customer-first mindset in every situation, stay calm and professional when resolving complaints or unexpected issues, move with urgency in a fast-paced environment without sacrificing accuracy or friendliness, communicate clearly with both customers and teammates, show up consistently and take ownership of your performance goals, and bring energy and pride to the work you do every day.

What We Offer

Nellis Auction offers competitive pay with real career growth opportunities. Benefits include paid time off, sick pay, and holiday pay, paid parental leave, comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage, and a 401(k) plan with a 4% company match after one year of employment.

Requirements:

Requirements

Two or more years of customer service experience is preferred, along with one to two years of warehouse or customer-facing work. Strong communication skills and a genuinely positive attitude are essential. Candidates must be self-motivated, detail-oriented, and dependable with excellent punctuality and attendance. Basic computer and data entry skills are required. Comfort working in varying weather conditions — both indoors and outdoors — is necessary. Bilingual candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.

Physical Requirements

This is an active, on-your-feet role performed both indoors and outdoors.

Associates must be able to lift, carry, and load items weighing up to 50 lbs regularly, and assist with team lifts for heavier items.

The role requires standing and walking for shifts of 10 to 12 hours, along with regular bending, squatting, reaching, and pulling.

Associates must be comfortable working in seasonal temperature extremes and must possess the vision capabilities necessary for order verification and safe loading, including close, distance, color, and peripheral vision, as well as depth perception.
