Associate Architect information

What does an associate architect do?

An Associate Architect is an early to mid-career professional who assists in the design, planning, and execution of architectural projects under the supervision of senior architects. Their responsibilities often include developing drawings, creating models, conducting research, and ensuring compliance with building codes and regulations. Associate Architects collaborate with clients, engineers, and construction teams to help bring architectural concepts to life. They may also participate in site visits and project meetings to monitor progress and address design challenges. This role is a vital step toward becoming a licensed architect.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an associate architect?

To thrive as an Associate Architect, you need a solid grounding in architectural design, building codes, and construction documentation, usually supported by a professional degree in architecture and progress toward architectural licensure. Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD, Revit, and SketchUp, as well as familiarity with BIM systems, is commonly required. Strong teamwork, attention to detail, and effective client communication are vital soft skills for this role. These abilities are essential for producing accurate designs, ensuring regulatory compliance, and facilitating successful project delivery.

How does an associate architect typically collaborate with senior architects and other team members during a project?

As an Associate Architect, you will regularly work under the guidance of senior architects, contributing to the design process and assisting in the creation of detailed drawings and specifications. Collaboration is key, as you'll coordinate with engineers, consultants, and contractors to ensure that designs are feasible and align with project goals. Expect to participate in project meetings, manage portions of documentation, and help resolve design or technical challenges as they arise, making strong communication skills essential.

What is the difference between Associate Architect vs Project Architect?

We Are

Accenture's North America MuleSoft practice, which is one of the largest and most experienced networks of MuleSoft professionals in the world. We help leading organizations modernize their businesses through APIs, integration, automation, and emerging AI technologies.

Our teams work on some of the most complex and innovative integration initiatives across industries, helping clients unlock value from their applications, data, and digital platforms. From traditional enterprise integration to AI-powered and agentic architectures, we design solutions that are scalable, secure, reusable, and governed for long-term success.

We believe that great integration is the foundation of great digital experiences. As data becomes increasingly important for analytics, automation, AI, and business operations, organizations need trusted ways to connect systems, applications, and people. Our MuleSoft professionals play a critical role in helping clients build those foundations.

If you're passionate about integration, APIs, AI, and solving complex business challenges, you'll have opportunities to work with leading clients, collaborate with experienced practitioners, develop in-demand skills, and help shape the future of enterprise connectivity. Join us and build a career at the intersection of integration, data, and AI.

You Are

An experienced, client-facing MuleSoft Architect who can turn complex business and technical requirements into scalable integration solutions. You bring strong architecture judgment, hands-on MuleSoft knowledge, and the communication skills to advise stakeholders, guide delivery teams, and establish standards throughout the project lifecycle. You are energized by solving enterprise integration challenges and helping clients build secure, governed, and reusable API ecosystems.

The Work

  • Lead MuleSoft solution design and define integration architectures that align with business outcomes, enterprise standards, security requirements, and operational needs.
  • Translate business and technical requirements into implementation designs using API-led connectivity and System, Process, and Experience API patterns.
  • Recommend scalable MuleSoft patterns, reusable assets, environment strategies, development standards, and delivery best practices.
  • Advise client stakeholders, business analysts, architects, and development teams throughout requirements, design, build, test, deployment, and support activities.
  • Guide implementation teams, review architecture and technical deliverables, conduct design and code quality reviews, and mentor less experienced MuleSoft professionals.
  • Support solutioning, project scoping, effort estimates, resource planning, environment configuration, deployments, monitoring, operational readiness, and knowledge transfer.
  • Use AI and GenAI tools for architecture documentation, solution analysis, productivity, and well-structured prompting while validating generated artifacts for quality, security, and maintainability.

Travel may be required for this role. The amount of travel will vary from 0 to 100% depending on business need and client requirements.

Here's what you need:

  • Minimum of 7 years experience translating business requirements into architectures and implementation designs and leading design, code, and technical quality reviews.
  • Minimum of 7 years experience of strong client-facing advisory, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience with integration architecture including working with applications to establish connectivity (JDBC, SOAP, REST, HTTP/HTTPS, JMS, File-Based), establishing development standards, identifying and creating reusable assets, leveraging strong delivery practices, creating environment strategies, leading deployments, monitoring solutions, and providing operational support.
  • Minimum of 4 years of professional hands-on MuleSoft experience as a developer or architect.
  • MuleSoft Certified Platform Architect certification, or the ability to obtain it within 90 days of hire.
  • Minimum of 3 years experience with MuleSoft architecture, solutioning, effort estimation, API and integration design, connectors, patterns, and build components.
  • Minimum of 3 years experience of Anypoint Platform, including API Manager, Runtime Manager, Anypoint Analytics, Design Center, and Exchange.
  • Minimum of 6 months experience with AI and GenAI tools for productivity, architecture documentation, solution analysis, and well-structured prompting.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent (minimum 12 years) work experience. (If Associate's Degree, must have minimum 6 years work experience)

Bonus Points If:

  • MuleSoft Certified Integration Architect, MuleSoft Certified Developer Level 2 certification, or any other MuleSoft or integration industry certification.
  • Experience using GenAI to accelerate MuleSoft code, tests, documentation, solution designs, and delivery artifacts, including review of AI-generated outputs.
  • Experience with Omni Gateway, Model Context Protocol, agentic integration, Anypoint MQ, CloudHub 2.0, Runtime Fabric, or MuleSoft CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience implementing API security patterns such as OAuth, JWT, TLS, mTLS, and policy-based access control.
  • Experience with HL7, FHIR, offshore delivery teams, or integration with SAP, Salesforce, Workday, Oracle Cloud Applications, ServiceNow, or similar platforms.
