Summary

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of New Hampshire (UNH) invites applications for an Associate Chair at the rank of associate professor with tenure, with a start date in August 2024.
We are seeking individuals with a strong interest and experience in promoting excellence in research, teaching, and service to grow the national and international scholarly reputation of the department. The successful candidate will assist the Department Chair with faculty development and the growth and diversification of our undergraduate and graduate programs as well as with accreditation.
The Department of Mechanical Department at UNH has built a strong reputation for performing research in advanced manufacturing, autonomous robotics, fluid dynamics, materials science, mechanics, ocean engineering and renewable energy. We are particularly interested in individuals who can advance the research mission of the department through their own scholarly pursuits in any area of mechanical engineering that supports or complements the department's current research.
Responsibilities
The Associate Chair's responsibilities include sharing in administrative duties, as assigned by the Chair. These duties can include chairing committees, serving as an additional liaison with the College, supporting faculty development, assisting in the management of students, and assisting in the day-to-day operations of the department. The Associate Chair shall serve as Chair in the absence of the latter. The three-year term provides a training period after which the Associate Chair may have the opportunity to transition to the Chair position. The Associate Chair will have a reduced teaching load and will be expected to continue their scholarly pursuits for the duration of their appointment. Additional resources will be provided for this purpose.

They should have a desire to help shape and lead the department's next stage of development in the growth of its graduate programs and research portfolio; academic curricular innovation; faculty, staff, and student development; local and global research collaborations; diversity planning and development; facilities management and expansion; and the further enhancement of the department's national and international scholarly reputation.
