The Associate Engineer is responsible for providing support to the Engineering lab regarding test equipment, test setup, facility needs, equipment maintenance, troubleshooting and Data Acquisition under limited supervision. Partnering with Engineering and other Lab functions to determine specific test equipment and resource needs to support test execution. Should be able to communicate effectively, document work, create procedures, design, and build test fixtures.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High School Diploma.
  • 15 Years relevant work experience, or 12 years of relevant experience and an Associate Degree in related field.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Proficiency in proper use and application of various hand and power tools.
  • Proficiency in use of basic and advanced electrical and mechanical test equipment.
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Associate degree in related field.
  • Proficiency working with thermocouples, pressure sensors, and other electrical & mechanical sensors.
  • Knowledge with internal combustion engine assemblies.
  • 2 years in fields related to the type of products Generac produces.
  • Proficiency working with Data Acquisition Systems.
  • Knowledge of ISO 17025
  • Experience in welding & shaping sheet metal
  • Experience participating in a team-based environment with some project leadership experience.
  • Experience in electrical generation devices and related components.
  • Experience in mechanical or electrical related field.
  • Experience in electrical loading and AC & DC power generation systems.
  • Experience in electrical & mechanical design, componentry, and ability to create and interpret schematics & blueprints.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
70% Essential Duties
Testing & Support:
  • Support test equipment and setup for product testing per test procedures.
  • Prepare the use of various data acquisition devices for recording mechanical, electrical, and environmental measurements.
  • Design, build, implement, and document electrical & mechanical test fixturing to support lab testing needs.
  • Maintain test and lab equipment for calibration, functionality, and operation in accordance of ISO 17025 and the Laboratory Scope of Operations.
  • Work closely with internal and external engineering teams as needed to support lab work.
  • Respond to and be pro-active about lab support requests in a timely manner, effectively, efficiently, and drive to resolution.
  • Support R&D testing issues through troubleshooting, diagnosis, solution, and improvements.
  • Actively participate in cost reductions solutions.
  • Actively participate in product and test equipment improvements.

25% Essential Duties
Clerical:
  • Correlate and document test data using proper forms and procedures for engineering.
  • Maintain test-related documentation in database environment.
  • Lead and support Calibration of test equipment and instrumentation.
  • Assist with Generac Engineering Laboratory Audit and organizational 5S programs.
  • Update and develop policies and procedures supporting the continuous improvement of the Engineering Lab.

5% Other Duties
Other Duties:
  • Collaborate with Engineers for planning of testing requirements.
  • Mentor and train developing Technicians and Engineers.
  • Regular contact with vendors and service providers.
  • Recommend laboratory and facilities equipment needs.

  • Knowledge of AC and DC electrical generation systems.
  • Knowledge of and contribution to a continuous safe work environment.
