Your Opportunity
Our Buildings team is looking for a Mechanical Engineer. You will work on smaller projects, and as a team member of larger projects under the guidance of a Senior Engineer or Project Manager. You will assist in evaluating, selecting, specifying, and engineering Heating, Ventilating, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) building systems for projects verifying compliance with applicable codes and internal engineering standards / practices. You will perform a variety of tasks which may include Revit modeling, preparing design drawings, performing system calculations, ductwork design, piping design, specifying equipment, field survey work, and construction administration.
Your Key Responsibilities
  • Work with a team of design colleagues to conceptualize and develop full documentation for new construction and renovation projects for multiple types of facilities such as advanced technologies, industrial, healthcare, mission critical, higher education, research laboratories or similar applications.
  • Engage in the development of a design through sketches, electronic models, diagrams, and other visual formats.
  • Utilize Building Information Modeling (BIM) technologies in development of three-dimensional models of building's mechanical systems.
  • Prepare and revise documentation in various mechanical phases including site plans, floor plans, diagrams, and details.
  • Participate in project coordination meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants, owner and contractor, sub-contractors, and vendors.
  • Participate in client contact on projects to establish design criteria, review design progress as well as providing support through construction administration.
  • Support the preparation and coordination of the project specifications with construction documents.
  • Work on multiple projects.
  • Conduct field surveys of existing conditions of building spaces.
  • Prepare field reports and punch lists.
  • Provide mentoring to junior staff.

Qualifications
Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • Requisite knowledge, interpretation, and application of mechanical codes, energy codes, NFPA codes, ASHRAE standards, and other building codes.
  • Strong understanding of all phases of project document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, means and methods, materials, and industry standards.
  • Perform calculations using company standard software and proprietary manufacturer software (IESVE for HVAC, Trane Trace, and/or HAP).
  • Demonstrates technical writing ability to author a discipline specific Basis of Design.
  • Development of project job specific discipline specifications independently from a company master specification.
  • Experience in the construction industry and/or in-depth knowledge of construction processes.
  • Ability to integrate design elements with architects and other building engineers.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to check own work for accuracy and completeness and manage time to meet project budget and schedule.
  • Ability to take direction, follow process, and accept feedback and suggestions from Senior Engineers
  • Ability to participate and collaborate in project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought.
  • Requires a thorough understanding of Microsoft Office Suite, Revit, AutoCAD.

Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Architectural Engineering with a mechanical emphasis.
Minimum of 7 years of experience in the buildings design industry.
Licensed Professional Engineer or is currently working toward professional licensure.
LEED Green Associate or LEED AP preferred.
Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.

About the Team
Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
Benefits Summary: Regular full-time and part-time employees (working at least 20 hours per week) have access to medical, dental, and vision plans, a wellness program, health saving accounts, flexible spending accounts, 401(k) plan, employee stock purchase program, life and accidental death & dismemberment (AD&D) insurance, short-term/long-term disability plans, emergency travel benefits, tuition reimbursement, professional membership fee coverage and paid family leave. Regular full-time and part-time employees will receive ten paid holidays in each calendar year. In addition, employees will be eligible to accrue vacation between 10 and 20 days per year and eligible for paid sick leave (and if more generous, in accordance with state and local law).
