Description

The Packaging Application Engineering Manager supports a team of Application Engineers in their pre-sale support efforts by collaborating with Sales Teams, Department Managers, Product Market Managers, Sales Administrators and international colleagues to define and propose the technical aspects of sales projects, proposals and orders. Advance and propel the sales process Provides technical expertise to the direct reports to best support the Sales Team in closing new business opportunities as well as ensuring the technical implementation of new and additional services.

This position will travel up to 25% of the time. Schedule needs to be flexible to accommodate sales team and customer schedules.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned:

  1. Lead and manage the collaborative pre-sales technical effort and smooth transition of projects from Sales through Application Engineering team. Ensure efficiency by managing workflow process and resource allocation to meet departmental goals.
  2. Responsible for leading the team to produce technically sound customer solutions and fully documenting solutions for the formal transfer of projects to the Quote Writing team; Participate in order clarification with Order Processor and work with international business partners and/or Engineering to address follow-up technical questions and concerns as needed.
  3. Manage the complete and proper hand-off of projects to downstream Engineering teams to ensure all technical considerations and customer requirements are fully understood.  Manage a formal order documentation (order card, machine drawing, etc.) process and Project Management transition process.
  4. Collaborate cross departmentally to ensure proper hand-off/understanding of customer requirements to result in the most seamless, efficient process possible without sacrificing quality.
  5. Assess application, technical, and process training needs of individuals on the team to properly develop and implement an onboarding training program with regular continual training opportunities for associates.
  6. When requested, participate in sales calls with Sales Directors, Regional Sales Managers, and Key Account Managers to provide technical support in their consulting and selling efforts with customers.
  7. Visit German parent company as required to build and maintain solid, creditable relations with other internal partners to foster an open and collaborative culture.
  8. Fully understand and utilize SAP, MULTIVAC quoting systems, CRM database, and MULTIVAC training systems to continuously improve quality of deliverables to Sales, customers, and downstream departments.
  9. Collaborate with internal and external parties to identify technical features and capabilities relative to MULTIVAC products and services which will bring additional value to customers.
  10. Attend and participate in trade shows, sales meetings and other company specified activities as required.

Education/Experience: Bachelor's degree in engineering or technical field and five years technical experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Strong technical background and expertise with creating equipment application sales proposals and ability to discuss complex technical requirements.  Previous management experience preferred. 

Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should be proficient in MS Office, particularly Outlook, Work, Excel, and Power Point.  Working knowledge of ERP systems required. 

Certificates and Licenses: Current valid driver’s license and the ability to obtain a passport for travel as required by position.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Directly supervises a team.  Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.  Responsibilities include hiring and training associates; planning, assigning, and directing work; evaluating performance; applying recognition and discipline as appropriate; addressing complaints and resolving problems; and developing associates through coaching, counseling, and mentoring.  Ensures effective communication with internal and external stakeholders.
