Requirements:

  • Extensive experience (7+ years) with AutoCAD Civil 3D and a deep understanding of civil engineering design principles.
  • Proven experience in developing civil engineering plans, including site plans, roadways, utility layouts, and grading/drainage designs.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to mentor and guide junior team members.
  • Experience working with clients, project managers, and engineers in a collaborative, team-focused environment.
  • Valid Alaska Driver's License and a good driving record.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with GIS, Microsoft Office Suite, and large-format printing/plotting devices.
  • Knowledge of state and federal regulations for infrastructure projects.
  • Ability to balance multiple projects and prioritize effectively to meet tight deadlines.
  • Strong attention to detail, quality control, and technical precision in all design efforts.
  • Familiarity with Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities (DOT&PF) or Municipality of Anchorage plan standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design and drafting efforts for civil and survey projects.
  • Develop detailed AutoCAD Civil 3D drawings for project deliverables.
  • Collaborate with engineers, surveyors, and project managers to translate field data into accurate and high-quality construction drawings.
  • Provide technical oversight and mentorship to junior drafting/design staff, ensuring consistency, accuracy, and adherence to industry standards.
  • Review and refine project drawings to ensure clarity, technical precision, and compliance with applicable regulations and standards.
  • Coordinate design efforts across multiple projects, managing deadlines and optimizing workflows to meet project goals.
  • Assist in troubleshooting design challenges, providing technical solutions, and contributing to the continuous improvement of CAD standards.

Work Environment:

This position primarily involves office work with routine use of standard office equipment, including computers, phones, and large-format plotters. The position may occasionally require fieldwork, including site visits and field data collection. Physical activity may include sitting for long periods, occasional lifting (up to 40 lbs.), and the need to bend, kneel, or climb as necessary.
