Employer & Industry UsageCommon in finance, consulting, and corporate sectorsWidespread across industries like finance, marketing, healthcare

The main difference between an Associate Analyst and a Data Analyst lies in their scope of responsibilities and experience level. Associate Analysts typically handle supporting tasks and data collection, while Data Analysts focus more on interpreting data and generating insights. Both roles require similar educational backgrounds and certifications, but Data Analysts usually have more advanced technical skills and experience.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an associate analyst, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Associate Analyst, you need strong analytical abilities, attention to detail, and a relevant degree in fields like finance, economics, or business. Familiarity with data analysis tools such as Excel, SQL, or business intelligence platforms, along with experience in data visualization software, is often required. Excellent communication, problem-solving skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively help distinguish top performers in this role. These skills are crucial for accurately interpreting data, providing actionable insights, and effectively supporting decision-making processes within an organization.

Do associate analysts make a lot of money?

Associate analysts typically earn a starting salary that is below senior-level roles but can vary depending on industry, location, and company size. Entry-level salaries often range from $50,000 to $70,000 annually, with potential for increases as they gain experience and develop skills in data analysis, reporting, and tools like Excel or SQL.

How do I become an associate analyst?

To become an associate analyst, candidates typically need a bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as finance, economics, or business. Gaining skills in data analysis, proficiency with tools like Excel or SQL, and relevant internships or entry-level experience can improve chances. Certifications like the CFA or CPA are optional but can be advantageous.

What is an associate analyst?

Associate Analysts are entry- to mid-level professionals who support senior analysts or managers by conducting research, analyzing data, and preparing reports in their area of expertise. They often work in fields such as finance, business, marketing, or data analysis. Their responsibilities typically include gathering and interpreting data, identifying trends, and providing actionable insights to help organizations make informed decisions. This role is ideal for individuals looking to build analytical skills and gain experience in their chosen industry.

What are some common challenges associate analysts face when transitioning from academic settings to a professional environment?

Associate Analysts often find that adapting to the fast-paced, deadline-driven nature of professional environments can be challenging compared to academic settings. Unlike structured coursework, projects in the workplace may require juggling multiple tasks, collaborating across departments, and responding to shifting priorities. Developing strong communication and time management skills is essential, as is learning to interpret and present data insights tailored to business needs. Support from more experienced team members and training programs often help new analysts bridge the gap and succeed in their roles.

This role sits within a collaborative research environment where clear communication, sound judgment, intellectual curiosity, deep sector expertise, and attention to detail are critical.
Your Role
The Associate Credit Analyst will perform fundamental credit analysis of current and prospective issuers and securities for Global Liquidity portfolios. The role will assess issuer financial condition, legal structure, business profile, liquidity, credit quality, market developments, and investment suitability within applicable fund guidelines. The analyst will serve as a member of the Global Liquidity Research Committee and contribute to issuer and security approval decisions. The role also offers the opportunity to develop deep sector expertise, support client-facing discussions, contribute to thought leadership, and participate in broader Invesco Fixed Income sector teams alongside analysts from across fixed income. You Will Be Responsible For:
  • Perform fundamental credit analysis of current and potential holdings, including review of issuer financial condition, legal structure, business profile, liquidity profile, capital structure, investment suitability, and key credit risks.
  • Build and maintain deep sector expertise across assigned coverage areas, developing a strong command of issuer fundamentals, sector dynamics, market structure, regulatory developments, rating agency perspectives, and emerging risks or opportunities.
  • Develop and articulate defensible credit recommendations and issuer reviews supported by financial analysis, market data, rating agency materials, sell-side research, and internal research.
  • Serve as a member of the Global Liquidity Research Committee, contributing to the review and approval of issuers and securities for purchase by portfolio managers.
  • Collaborate with portfolio managers to evaluate securities within portfolio objectives, fund restrictions, regulatory requirements, liquidity needs, and approved credit parameters.
  • Actively participate in broader Invesco Fixed Income sector teams by sharing sector views, issuer updates, and market insights with analysts and investment colleagues across strategies.
  • Cultivate relationships with sell-side sales, origination, and research teams, as well as rating agency analysts and other external market participants, to support issuer surveillance, market awareness, and credit analysis.
  • Contribute to client-facing materials, client presentations, thought leadership, market updates, and internal presentations that communicate Global Liquidity credit views and relevant market themes.

The Experience You Bring:
  • 1-3 years of experience in financial services, credit analysis, accounting, investment research, portfolio management, or a related analytical role.
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business, or a related field; progress toward CFA designation or an advanced degree is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of financial statement analysis, credit fundamentals, accounting concepts, market data, and investment research methods.
  • Familiarity with money market funds, short-duration fixed income, SEC Rule 2a-7, rating agency methodologies, or investment management regulation is preferred.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills, with the ability to interpret financial data, identify key risks, and develop well-reasoned conclusions.
  • Effective written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to simplify complex information for portfolio managers, analysts, clients, and other stakeholders.
  • Proficiency with Bloomberg, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Microsoft Copilot or similar AI-enabled productivity tools, with the ability to use technology responsibly to improve research efficiency, drafting, organization, and workflow productivity while maintaining analytical judgment, confidentiality, and quality control.
