Job description

Koniag IT Systems, LLC, a Koniag Government Services company, is seeking a FOIA Analyst to support KPS and our government customer in Charleston, SC. This position requires the candidate to have an active Secret clearance.

The FOIA Analysts will support government Freedom of Information Act operations. As key personnel identified by the government, FOIA Analysts ensure transparent and compliant handling of FOIA requests. This position operates Monday through Friday during normal business hours, except on Federal holidays or when government facilities are closed for administrative reasons.

The FOIA Analyst will perform comprehensive support for FOIA operations, working with FOIA Officers, POCs, and SMEs. Core responsibilities include:

Request Management:

  • Monitor systems, mail, faxes, and email accounts for new requests and referrals
  • Analyze incoming requests for compliance and procedural requirements
  • Draft acknowledgment letters with appropriate fee categories and determinations
  • Coordinate with components for document review and case management
  • Assign and track requests through the appropriate channels

Document Processing:

  • Identify offices and personnel with potentially responsive records
  • Task and monitor search responses to ensure completeness
  • Provide guidance on proper search techniques
  • Determine appropriate search methodologies
  • Convert and prepare documents for review

Records Review and Response:

  • Identify information exempt from release under applicable laws
  • Apply appropriate redactions with proper exemption annotations
  • Review release recommendations and reconcile differences
  • Prepare correspondence for approval by authorized officials
  • Coordinate with subject matter experts and legal counsel as needed
  • Prepare final response packages for signature

Administrative Functions:

  • Maintain electronic case files with comprehensive documentation
  • Update case management systems for data accuracy
  • Manage correspondence and communications
  • Prepare Vaughn indices for withheld documents
  • Generate required reports and statistics
  • Ensure Section 508 compliance for public materials

Education and Experience:

  • Associate's degree or equivalent experience
  • Three or more years of experience in analytical and administrative support services

Required Skills and Competencies:

  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel) and Adobe Acrobat
  • Experience with electronic FOIA processing tools, preferably FOIAXpress
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
