Job description

Amalgamated Sugar Company is seeking a Controls Technician to support industrial automation and control systems at our Twin Falls Factory in Twin Falls, Idaho. This role plays a key part in maintaining, improving, and troubleshooting plant control systems to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations. The position reports to the Process Optimization Manager and partners closely with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams.
Key Responsibilities
  • Design, troubleshoot, and support industrial control systems including PLCs, HMIs, and plant networks
  • Install, configure, and commission automation equipment and control system upgrades
  • Support factory operations through monitoring and optimization of OT and industrial network systems
  • Diagnose and resolve electrical and control system issues to minimize downtime
  • Configure and maintain VFDs, smart sensors, and industrial instrumentation
  • Collect and analyze data to support continuous improvement and project effectiveness
  • Perform inspections of control system architecture to ensure compliance with internal and industry standards
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on automation and process improvement initiatives
  • Support system documentation, backups, and change management best practices
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Strong knowledge of industrial electrical troubleshooting and process control systems
  • Hands-on experience with PLC, HMI, and industrial network systems
  • Working knowledge of Rockwell Automation platforms, including Studio 5000 and FactoryTalk
  • Understanding of industrial communication protocols (EtherNet/IP, Modbus, ControlNet)
  • Ability to troubleshoot automation systems in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and documentation skills
  • Ability to work independently while supporting multiple departments
Preferred Skills
  • Experience with FactoryTalk View SE/ME, Historian, and FactoryTalk View Client
  • Familiarity with OT network design and monitoring in an industrial environment
  • Experience supporting continuous process manufacturing (food, beverage, chemical, or similar)
  • Knowledge of basic project management tools (e.g., MS Project or Visio)
  • Exposure to cybersecurity best practices in industrial control systems
Education and Experience
  • Associate's degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Automation, or related field preferred
  • 3+ years of experience supporting industrial automation or controls systems in a manufacturing environment
  • Equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered
