Job description

About Wellfit:
Wellfit is the dental industry's fintech solution! A healthcare fintech company that enhances experiences between patients, providers, employers, and payors.
Wellfit provides access to treatment and care by removing financial barriers.
As a profitable and growing healthcare fintech company, Wellfit is investing in AI, automation, and modern engineering practices to improve how we build products, support customers, and deliver innovative solutions across the healthcare and dental ecosystem.
About the Role:
The Associate AI Engineer will support Wellfit's Innovation and Engineering teams by helping research, prototype, test, and implement AI-powered solutions across our products, internal tools, and development workflows.
This is a hands-on engineering role for someone early in their AI career who has a strong software development foundation and wants to grow in applied AI, cloud platforms, automation, and modern product engineering. You will work closely with senior engineers, architects, and business stakeholders to help bring ideas from concept to proof-of-concept and, where appropriate, into production-ready solutions.
The ideal candidate is curious, technical, coachable, and comfortable experimenting with new technology. You should enjoy building, testing, learning quickly, documenting what you find, and helping the team evaluate whether an idea is technically feasible and valuable to the business.
What You'll Do
Support the development of AI-powered proof-of-concepts, prototypes, and internal tools that align with Wellfit's Innovation Strategy.
Write clean, maintainable code using Python and/or .NET technologies to support AI integrations, automation, APIs, and experimental solutions.
Assist with integrating AI capabilities into new and existing Wellfit technologies, products, and workflows.
Work with senior engineers to evaluate technical approaches, identify tradeoffs, and recommend practical solutions.
Experiment with AI tools, APIs, prompts, embeddings, retrieval-augmented generation, workflow automation, and model-driven features.
Help test and validate AI-powered features to ensure outputs are useful, accurate, secure, and aligned with business needs.
Participate in research and development initiatives by applying structured experimentation, documenting assumptions, testing outcomes, and summarizing findings.
Collaborate with engineering, product, and innovation stakeholders to understand business problems and translate them into working prototypes or technical recommendations.
Help create unit tests, regression tests, and system-level tests to validate new features or changes.
Debug, refactor, and improve code under the guidance of senior technical team members.
Document technical solutions, designs, workflows, findings, and limitations clearly through written documentation and diagrams.
Learn and apply Wellfit's software development standards, engineering processes, and best practices.
Stay current on emerging AI tools, cloud services, and development practices that may improve Wellfit's products or internal operations.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, Information Systems, or a related technical field; equivalent practical experience may be considered.
1-3+ years of software development, AI engineering, data engineering, automation, or related technical experience.
Strong hands-on coding ability in Python.
Exposure to .NET, C#, ASP.NET, or Microsoft-based development environments is strongly preferred.
Familiarity with APIs, web services, databases, source control, and modern software development practices.
Foundational understanding of AI, machine learning, generative AI, large language models, prompt engineering, or AI-assisted development workflows.
Experience building prototypes, proof-of-concepts, scripts, internal tools, automation workflows, or small product features.
Exposure to cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or GCP; Azure experience is preferred.
Familiarity with Azure AI services, Azure OpenAI, Azure AI Foundry, Microsoft Fabric, or similar platforms is a plus.
Basic understanding of web development, debugging, data structures, algorithms, and software testing.
Experience with Git or other source control tools.
Ability to communicate clearly about project status, blockers, risks, and technical findings.
Strong curiosity, initiative, and willingness to learn new technologies quickly.
Ability to work in a collaborative environment and receive technical guidance from senior engineers and architects.
Nice to Have
Experience with FastAPI, Flask, Django, or similar Python frameworks.
Exposure to Angular, JavaScript, TypeScript, or front-end development.
Experience with SQL or relational databases.
Familiarity with microservices, DevOps concepts, CI/CD, or cloud-native development.
Experience using AI coding tools such as GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor, or similar tools.

Familiarity with Design Thinking, Human-Centered Design, or product discovery processes.
Interest in fintech, healthcare technology, dental technology, SaaS, or data-driven product development.
Who Will Thrive Here
You will thrive in this role if you are a builder who likes to experiment, learn quickly, and turn ideas into working examples.
This is not a pure research role, and it is not a role where you will only talk about AI in theory. You will be expected to write code, test ideas, support proof-of-concepts, document findings, and help the team decide which ideas are worth pursuing further.
You should be comfortable asking questions like:
Can AI make this workflow faster, smarter, or more scalable?
Can we build a quick prototype to prove or disprove this idea?
What are the risks, limitations, or failure points?
How do we test whether this actually works?
How could this eventually integrate into Wellfit's existing technology?
Why Wellfit?
