Associate Aerospace Engineer information

What is an associate aerospace engineer?

An Associate Aerospace Engineer is an entry-level professional who assists in the design, analysis, testing, and development of aircraft, spacecraft, satellites, and related systems. They work under the guidance of senior engineers to apply engineering principles, perform simulations, analyze data, and ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards. Their role may involve working with software tools for modeling and computational analysis, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and contributing to research and development efforts.

What does an associate aerospace engineer do?

As an Associate Aerospace Engineer, your day often involves working closely with senior engineers and project teams to design, test, and improve aerospace systems or components. You may spend time creating technical drawings with CAD software, running simulations, conducting data analysis, and participating in team meetings to solve design challenges. Collaboration with manufacturing, quality assurance, and other engineering departments is common, ensuring all aspects of product development run smoothly. This role offers valuable hands-on experience and exposure to advanced technologies, making it a great starting point for career advancement in the aerospace industry.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an associate aerospace engineer?

To thrive as an Associate Aerospace Engineer, you need a strong foundation in aerospace engineering principles and mathematics, typically supported by a relevant bachelor's degree. Proficiency with computer-aided design (CAD) software, simulation tools like MATLAB or ANSYS, and familiarity with industry regulations are important. Strong analytical thinking, teamwork, attention to detail, and effective communication skills will help you excel in collaborative engineering environments. These abilities are vital for ensuring high-quality, innovative solutions in complex aerospace projects where precision and safety are paramount.

What can I do with an associate aerospace engineer's degree?

An associate aerospace engineer's degree prepares individuals for entry-level roles in aerospace design, testing, and manufacturing. Job description

Description

RAM Aerospace has been powering flight and space exploration since 1975, delivering precision solenoids, valves, actuators, LVDTs, and RVDTs for commercial, defense, and space applications. Headquartered in St. George, Utah, with a facility in Valencia, California, we build mission-critical components that the world's leading aerospace programs depend on. Join a team that builds the future of aerospace, on time, with excellence. Your career takes off here!

As a Calibration Technician, you will play a big role in our Quality System-our Inspection, Measurement, and Test Equipment (IM&TE). You will perform hands-on calibration across a diverse range of disciplines-from dimensional micrometers to complex electronic oscilloscopes-ensuring full traceability to NIST standards. If you are a stickler for detail, an organized problem solver, and someone who takes pride in maintaining the highest standards of precision, we want you to ensure our tools are mission-ready.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Hands-On Calibration: Perform calibration and testing on a wide variety of manufacturing and process control equipment. This includes:
  • Dimensional: Calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, thread plugs/rings.
  • Electrical: Digital multimeters, oscilloscopes, milliohm meters.
  • Physical/Thermal: Pressure gauges, transducers, thermocouples, and pyrometry equipment.
  • System Management: Manage the calibration database to schedule and track thousands of assets. You are responsible for generating status reports and coordinating with production leads to recall tools before they go overdue, minimizing production downtime.
  • Vendor Coordination: Manage the relationship with third-party calibration labs for specialized off-site testing. You will review and approve their calibration certificates to ensure they meet RAM's strict quality standards.
  • Traceability & Compliance: Maintain the calibration system with unbroken traceability to NIST standards. You ensure all records comply with AS9100 regulations and internal procedures.
  • Out of Tolerance (OOT) Management: When a tool fails calibration, you don't just tag it; you investigate. You will issue Out of Tolerance notifications and work with Quality/Engineering to determine if the failed tool impacted any product quality.
  • Technical Resource: Act as the subject matter expert for measurement. You will assist engineers in selecting the right gauges for new products, help troubleshoot measurement discrepancies, and provide training to other technicians on proper gauge handling.
  • Inventory & Repair: specific gauge requests for standard and custom tooling. You will also maintain an inventory of spare parts and coordinate repairs for broken equipment.

Requirements

  • Legal: Must be able to pass a comprehensive criminal background check and drug screening. Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum (due to ITAR requirements).
  • Experience: 3+ years of experience in Metrology or Calibration. Experience with PMEL (Precision Measurement Equipment Laboratory) training in the military is a significant plus.
  • Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of Metrology principles, NIST traceability, and calibration standards (ANSI/NCSL Z540, ISO 17025).
  • Equipment Proficiency: Demonstrated ability to calibrate and troubleshoot varied equipment types (Electronics, Dimensional, Pressure, and Temperature).
  • Organization: Superior attention to detail. You must be able to manage a complex schedule and maintain impeccable records.
  • Education: Associate's degree in a technical field (Electronics, Engineering Technology) or equivalent professional experience.
  • Computer Skills: Proficiency with Calibration Management Software (CMS) databases and Microsoft Office.
