Job description
The Waggoner Center for Alcohol and Addiction Research (WCAAR) at the University of Texas at Austin is seeking candidates for tenure track, full-time faculty positions at the assistant or associate professor level. The WCAAR has recently received a commitment from the University to recruit new faculty members in conjunction with the College of Natural Sciences, Cockrell School of Engineering, College of Pharmacy, and College of Liberal Arts, and the new Dell Medical School. We seek individuals with research interests in addiction, with outstanding scholarly achievements in behavioral, systems or molecular neuroscience, to compliment ongoing WCAAR research areas and approaches. Facilities for successful candidates will be in the new Health Discovery Building of the Dell Medical School on the UT Austin campus.
The WCAAR is an internationally renowned addiction research center with a core faculty of three Waggoner fellows and a director, who hold tenured positions in the Department of Neuroscience. There are several affiliated faculty based in the Departments of Psychology and Neuroscience, and in the College of Pharmacy and Dell Medical School. WCAAR faculty receive annual funding of over $7M from the National Institutes of Health that support addiction research. For more information about the WCAAR, please see: https://waggonercenter.utexas.edu/.
In addition to WCAAR faculty, there is a rich community of collaborators at UT Austin who study human behavioral health in the Steve Hicks School of Social Work, School of Nursing, College of Pharmacy, and the Moody College of Communication. Their interests include addiction and social stigma, substance abuse and the juvenile justice system, interventions to prevent alcohol, marijuana and tobacco-exposed pregnancies, group treatment for cocaine abusers, tobacco cessation treatment, naloxone distribution and training for opioid overdose treatment, screening and brief intervention for substance use in acute medical care settings, addiction education, and advocacy for individuals in recovery.
