Associate Accountants are entry-level professionals who assist with the preparation, maintenance, and analysis of financial records in organizations. Their duties typically include bookkeeping, processing invoices, reconciling accounts, and supporting audits. They work under the supervision of senior accountants or accounting managers and play a key role in ensuring financial accuracy and compliance. This position is often a stepping stone to more advanced accounting roles as individuals gain experience and professional certifications.

What does an associate accountant do?

An associate accountant manages payments and accounts receivables at a company. In this career, your duties and responsibilities include reviewing invoices, audits, fund requests from various departments within the business, and financial records. You also perform data entry and file accounting data from the different departments and analyze the information. You may also be responsible for checking the work of other accountants to ensure it is mathematically and factually accurate. As an associate accountant, you are required to follow all state and federal compliance laws.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an associate accountant, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Associate Accountant, you need a strong grasp of accounting principles, attention to detail, and a relevant degree such as a bachelor's in accounting or finance. Job description

Build your accounting career at an agency that's been getting it right since 1900.

We're a Massachusetts independent insurance agency with 125 years of history and a decidedly modern outlook - voted one of the Best Agencies to Work For by Insurance Journal, a Trusted Choice agency, and Five Star Accredited.

As a Senior Accounting Associate, you'll be a core member of our accounting department, responsible for compiling and reviewing financial information, maintaining accurate records, and managing the essential functions that keep our agency running smoothly. This is a hands-on, full-cycle role. You'll touch cash management, payables and receivables, reconciliations, payroll, and financial statement preparation, giving you visibility into the complete financial picture of the business rather than a narrow slice of it.

You'll work closely with agency leadership, account managers, and vendors, which means your work is visible and your judgment matters. We're a lean team, so you won't be buried three layers down, you'll own your areas, spot the issues before they become problems, and have a direct line to the people who can act on what you find. Insurance accounting has its own rhythms and regulatory considerations; if that's new to you, we'll teach it.

Newly graduated? We want to hear from you. While we'd love to see a few years of accounting experience, we're equally excited to talk with recent college graduates who bring a strong accounting or finance foundation, a sharp eye for detail, and the drive to learn fast. We'll invest in the rest.

What You'll Own
  • Cash management and bank reconciliations
  • Vendor payments, expense reports, and company payables
  • Customer A/R management
  • Internal transactions and data audits
  • Compiling and reviewing financial statements
  • General ledger account reconciliations
  • Payroll functions
  • Processing miscellaneous agreements
  • Other projects that come with being a key part of a growing team
What You'll Bring
  • 3+ years of accounting experience - or a recent degree in accounting, finance, or a related field paired with internship or coursework that shows you know your way around a ledger
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (strong Excel skills are a plus)
  • A strong sense of urgency paired with genuine attention to detail
  • Discretion in handling confidential materials
  • The ability to juggle deadlines and multiple priorities without dropping a ball
What We Offer
  • Hybrid schedule option, plus Summer Fridays and extended holiday weekends
  • Comprehensive PTO - paid vacation, holidays, and sick time, plus parental leave
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance, and a 401(k) retirement plan
  • DG University: ongoing training, support for insurance designations, and continuing education
  • Employee-led committees- Giving, Social, Client Experience, & Technology
