PositionSummary
The StudentAssistant supports the Veterinary Technology Department by assisting with dailyoperations, animal care, laboratory maintenance, and departmental projects.This position provides hands-on experience in a professional veterinaryenvironment while developing technical, organizational, communication, andteamwork skills.

  • Learn proper time management, organization, and workplace professionalism.
  • Build responsibility, accountability, and teamwork skills.
  • Gain experience working under supervision while following directions independently.
  • Develop an appreciation for compassionate, ethical animal care.
  • Provide positive interaction and enrichment for animals housed in the Veterinary Technology Program.
  • Learn to work safely and effectively in varying environmental conditions, including outdoor animal care during inclement weather.

EssentialDuties and Responsibilities
Animal Care
  • Feed, water, monitor, and provide daily care for dogs, cats, and other program animals.
  • Walk dogs and provide enrichment activities.
  • Clean animal housing, cages, kennels, litter boxes, and equipment.
  • Observe animals and report health or behavioral concerns to supervising staff.

Laboratory& Facility Support
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of laboratory spaces.
  • Perform general housekeeping and janitorial duties.
  • Assist with facility maintenance and routine cleaning assignments.
  • Safely work with laboratory equipment, cleaning products, disinfectants, and other approved chemicals.

Inventory& Supplies
  • Receive, unpack, inspect, and organize incoming supplies.
  • Stock and rotate inventory.
  • Monitor inventory levels and expiration dates.
  • Maintain organized storage areas.

AdministrativeSupport
  • Perform clerical duties including filing, copying, and data entry.
  • Maintain records as assigned.
  • Assist with special projects and departmental events.

GeneralResponsibilities
  • Work independently while following established protocols.
  • Demonstrate professionalism when interacting with faculty, staff, students, and visitors.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Maintain enrollment in at least 6 credit hours each semester.
  • Maintain satisfactory academic progress.
  • Successfully complete required background check and drug screening.
  • Adhere to College confidentiality policies.
  • Ability to work mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and campus closures.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Preference given to currently enrolled Veterinary Technology students.

Physical Requirements
The position requires the ability to:
  • Stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Lift and carry supplies and equipment.
  • Perform repetitive cleaning tasks.
  • Work indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Safely handle animals of varying sizes under supervision.

This is a Part-Time Non-Bargaining Unit Position, with the following Set Rate of Pay: $14.56/ hour.
Special Note: If hired, you must reside in the state of Ohio and be within commuting distance of this work location/campus to respond to onsite work demands upon the employment start date and throughout the duration of your employment with the College, as outlined in 3354:1-40-01.1 Recruitment and Selection Procedure.
