What is an assistant yoga instructor?

Assistant Yoga Instructors are professionals who support lead yoga teachers by helping to demonstrate poses, provide guidance to students, and ensure a safe and comfortable class environment. They often assist with hands-on adjustments, answer student questions, and help set up or clean up after sessions. Typically, Assistant Yoga Instructors are in the process of gaining experience and may be working toward becoming lead instructors themselves. What does an assistant yoga instructor do?

A typical day for an Assistant Yoga Instructor involves preparing the studio space, greeting and checking in students, and assisting the lead instructor during class with demonstrations and hands-on adjustments. Assistants also help answer student questions, ensure a safe and welcoming environment, and may lead warm-ups or cool-downs. Collaboration with the lead instructor and other team members is key, as assistants often coordinate on lesson plans and provide feedback to help improve the overall class experience. This role provides valuable hands-on teaching experience and is a great stepping stone for those seeking to advance to a lead instructor position.
