Mold Maintenance Technician
Pay Range: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour
(Actual pay offered will be based on experience, skill level, and qualifications.)
Position Summary
Sea Fox Boats is seeking an experienced Mold Maintenance Technician to join our production team. This position is responsible for maintaining, repairing, preparing, and servicing fiberglass production molds to ensure they remain in proper condition for consistent, high-quality boat production. The ideal candidate has marine manufacturing experience, strong fiberglass and mold maintenance skills, excellent attention to detail, and takes pride in maintaining molds to a high production standard.
Key Responsibilities
  • Perform routine maintenance, cleaning, preparation, and repair of fiberglass production molds.
  • Inspect molds for damage, wear, cracks, chips, surface imperfections, and other conditions that may affect production quality.
  • Repair mold surfaces and imperfections using appropriate fiberglass, composite, filler, and finishing materials.
  • Prepare mold surfaces for production, including cleaning, polishing, waxing, and application of appropriate mold-release products.
  • Maintain mold surfaces to ensure proper finish, release, and consistency of manufactured parts.
  • Identify and address mold defects before molds are placed into production.
  • Perform sanding, grinding, buffing, polishing, and refinishing as required.
  • Repair minor mold damage and surface imperfections according to established procedures.
  • Assist with major mold repairs and modifications as directed by leadership.
  • Inspect completed mold repairs to ensure proper surface condition and finish.
  • Maintain accurate records of mold maintenance, repairs, and recurring issues as required.
  • Communicate mold damage, maintenance needs, or production concerns to leadership.
  • Work closely with production and quality personnel to help prevent mold-related defects.
  • Follow work instructions, production procedures, quality standards, and safety requirements.
  • Safely operate hand tools, power tools, sanding equipment, polishing equipment, and other mold maintenance tools.
  • Maintain an organized work area and properly care for tools and equipment.
  • Work collaboratively with other production team members to maintain workflow and meet production goals.
Required Skills & Qualifications
  • Previous experience in marine manufacturing, boat building, fiberglass production, mold maintenance, or a similar marine production environment is required.
  • Previous experience repairing, maintaining, preparing, or finishing fiberglass production molds is required.
  • Strong knowledge of fiberglass, composite, mold, and finishing materials.
  • Ability to identify mold surface defects, damage, wear, and imperfections that could affect production quality.
  • Experience with sanding, grinding, buffing, polishing, waxing, and surface preparation.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to perform detailed repair and maintenance work.
  • Ability to read and follow work instructions, production specifications, and established procedures.
  • Experience safely using hand tools, power tools, sanding equipment, and other production equipment.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Ability to troubleshoot mold and surface-related issues and determine appropriate corrective action.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing positively as part of a production team.
  • Dependable attendance and ability to meet production schedules.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Physical Requirements & Work Environment
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, climb, and reach for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and move materials up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work in a marine manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, dust, fiberglass materials, chemicals, and varying temperatures.
  • Must be comfortable working around and inside large fiberglass molds during various stages of production.
  • Ability to perform repetitive hand, arm, and wrist movements required for sanding, polishing, grinding, and other maintenance tasks.
  • Ability to work in awkward positions and around large production molds.
  • Must follow required safety procedures and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
