Position Summary:

Federal Equipment Company has been a leading supplier for marine deck machinery and specialized weapons and material handling systems. Through the years the company has emerged into an internationally recognized organization with extensive expertise in marine design/engineering and manufacturing of critical shipboard systems. The company, now part of Fairbanks Morse Defense, is rapidly growing and in need of a Certified Weld Inspector. The Weld Inspector (NDT LII Weld) will be responsible for level II inspecting of Welds. Overseeing 3rd party inspections and preparing a variety of required reports. This role requires time spent in our Inspection Lab and other Manufacturing environments within FEC. Team members wear many hats and cover several areas of responsibility and this position is no different. his role will fulfill duties as described below, as well as technical and clerical duties that arise when bottlenecks present themselves. This position is one of proactivity, continuous improvement, and integrity for the overall quality of the company.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Routinely perform Level II Visual Inspection of Welds.
  • May perform receiving, in-process, and final dimensional inspections (experience interpreting engineering prints using GD&T preferred but will train).
  • Overseeing 3rd party NDT Inspections as needed.
  • Interpret weld symbols and requirements on engineering prints.
  • Interpret weld codes and industry standards as required.
  • Complete VT Reports as required.
  • Visit local Suppliers to perform VT and dimensional Inspections as needed.
  • Manage/maintain equipment and records as required.
  • Assist in creating/maintaining Weld and NDT Procedures/Programs as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications, Skills and Educational Requirements

  • Current Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) Certification (AWS)
  • NAVSEA weld inspector – NDT Level II preferred
  • Must have excellent reading comprehension skills.
  • Good math skills, especially algebra, trigonometry and physics related to welding.
  • Must have good organizational and planning skills.
  • Must be able to lift up to 35 pounds at times.
  • Able to comprehend blueprints and drawings
  • Able to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Works well in a fast-faced environment with minimal day-to-day supervision
  • Proven ability to establish effective working relationships at all levels.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills.
  • Capable of working in a customer-focused, deadline-driven environment while maintaining a positive attitude
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Attention to detail and ability to deal with complexity
  • Results-oriented with willingness to take responsibility
  • NDT VT Level II experience
  • Ability to use precision measuring instruments, (digital AND dial/analog - micrometers, calipers) test sets, and gauging equipment, a plus
  • Ability to read customer drawings and specifications, GD&T experience a plus
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as dimensions, tolerance, etc.
  • Ability to operate Windows based computers and working knowledge of typical office programs – i.e. Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint
