Experience driving in adverse weather conditions (rain, fog, wind, and icy conditions), adjusting speed, following distance, and route decisions to maintain safety.

Ability to take extra precautions during poor weather (pre-trip checks, traction readiness, use of lights, and conservative driving practices) and to stop/park safely when conditions warrant.

Applies additional load securement precautions during bad weather, including verifying strap/chain tension, using edge protection, tarping as required, and re-checking securement during the route.

  • Secure flatbed loads using straps, chains, binders, and tarps according to DOT/company requirements; verify weight distribution and load stability before departure.
  • Perform en-route load checks and re-tension securement devices as needed, especially after the first few miles and after sudden weather changes.
  • Operate safely in adverse weather by adjusting routes and driving practices, using chains where required, and communicating delays/road closures to dispatch.

  • Maintain accurate delivery logs, route sheets, DVIRs, and required paperwork.
  • Adhere to all traffic laws, safety regulations, and company fleet policies.
  • Comply with FMCSA guidelines, including maintaining a complete Driver Qualification (DQ) file.
