Job description
For one year, get paid to build sustainable solutions in a community, gain valuable hands-on experience and prepare for your future. This full-time AmeriCorps service position offers a great opportunity to make an impact in the lives of others while building your own knowledge and skillset.
AmeriCorps National members serve the community in direct service and capacity building activities.
What will you do?
The construction crew leader plays an integral part in building and repairing homes. Lead groups of skills and unskilled volunteers and homeowner families in construction activities while maintaining a safe, efficient work environment, thus, developing and enhancing your volunteer management and construction skills.
Typically serve Tuesday - Saturday on the build site.
Assist with all aspects of hands-on construction tasks including, but not limited to, demolition, site prep, framing, insulation, drywall, flooring, roofing, finish carpentry and landscaping.
Projects may include new construction, rehabilitation, critical home repair and weatherization projects.
Lead small groups of volunteers and facilitate safe and positive experiences for everyone working on site.
Maintain site safety by adhering to Habitat construction safety policies, modeling best practices and guidelines, volunteer education and site monitoring.
This position will focus on home construction aspects of Habitat affiliate operations.

Activities and attractions: Habitat for Humanity Vail Valley is based in the heart of Colorado's Rocky Mountains. Our community is ideally situated near Vail and Beaver Creek ski areas, with countless year-round recreational activities and events. Vail and Beaver Creek mountains offer unrivaled access for skiing, snowboarding, and winter hiking. Summers in the Vail Valley are beautiful and allow for activities like hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, and fly fishing. Live out your cowboy dreams at local rodeos or meet other locals through rec league sports. There are also many live concerts and music festivals in the area (even in the winter!). If you're a National Park enthusiast, there are four National Parks in Colorado and five in nearby Utah.
Unique projects: Construction Crew Leaders will experience how our affiliate specializes in building energy-efficient homes. Our goal is to have all new homes be energy star certified. We will be broke ground on 10 new homes in 2026, as well as welcoming 30 new partner families the opportunity for homeownership through various local partnerships. Our AmeriCorps members will work on homes from start to finish, learn hands on construction skills, lead volunteers, and get to know our future homeowners.
When will you serve?
Start dates are flexible and based on this location's availability. Talk to the hiring manager for this position about start dates during your interview process. The start date will be 4-6 weeks from receiving an offer and no earlier than September 2026.
