The Department of Surgical Sciences at the University of Wisconsin, School of Veterinary Medicine is soliciting applications for 1 full-time faculty position as Assistant, Associate, or fullProfessor in Large Animal Surgery. The successful candidate will join the Large Animal Surgery Section, which is comprised of 3 full-time ACVS Diplomates (including 1 ACVSMR double boarded surgeon), 3 residents/interns, and a dynamic group of certified veterinary technicians.
Appointment may be made in the Teaching, Clinical, or Tenure track as appropriate to the candidate's background, experience, qualifications and career goals.
UW School of Veterinary Medicine (SVM) is a wonderful workplace with enthusiastic students, technologists, interns, residents, and other faculty specialists who work together to provide excellent veterinary medical care. The SVM team provides outstanding programs in veterinary medical education, research, clinical practice, and service that enhances the health and welfare of both animals and people and contribute to the economic well-being of the state of Wisconsin.
The SVM recently completed construction of a new facility that doubled the size of the school's small animal hospital and significantly enhanced the large animal hospital, expanded labs for studying naturally occurring animal and human diseases and increased and modernize infectious disease research space. The large animal hospital includes state-of-the-art equipment such as laparoscopy, arthroscopy, flexible endoscopy including dynamic airway endoscopy, gait analysis equipment, ultrasound, digital radiography, standing CT, and 3D printing. Key Job Responsibilities:
Clinical service within the Section of Large Animal Surgery at UW Veterinary Care including daytime and emergency duty, and back-up on call support to large animal surgery residents, interns, and technicians. Participation in clinical and didactic teaching of veterinary students and interns and residents in large animal surgery.
Up to 20 weeks of clinical duty per year. Will cover an equitable portion of lecture and laboratory teaching shared with the section (most recently averaging 10-15 lectures and 10-15 laboratories per year). Required to be capable of lifting up to 40 pounds, standing or walking for prolonged periods, able to reach and/or climb a ladder, kneel or sit on the floor, bending, squatting, and/or twisting.
Distribution of time is expected to be approximately Clinical practice 35-45%, Teaching 5-10%, Research 40-50%, Service 5-15%

Required Qualifications:
-DVM and PhD or equivalent by start date
-Must be licensed to practice Veterinary Medicine in the State of Wisconsin by start date.
-American College of Veterinary Surgeons Board Certified or Board Eligible by start date as a result of advanced training in Large Animal Surgery. Applicants with experience in surgery in species such as large ruminants, camelids, etc. are strongly encouraged to apply. An individual with European College of Veterinary Surgeons Board Certification may also be considered.
