Assistant vets, also known as veterinary assistants, are professionals who support veterinarians and veterinary technicians in animal care settings such as clinics, hospitals, and shelters. Their duties often include feeding, bathing, and exercising animals, sterilizing equipment, cleaning examination and operating rooms, and assisting with basic animal care procedures. They play an essential role in ensuring the smooth operation of veterinary practices and the well-being of animals under veterinary care. Veterinary assistants typically do not perform medical diagnoses or surgeries, but they are integral to the daily functioning of animal healthcare teams.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an assistant vet, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Assistant Vet, you need a solid understanding of animal care, basic veterinary procedures, and usually a relevant certification or diploma in veterinary assistance. Job description

AccentCare Hospice is seeking compassionate volunteers who are veterans of the United States military to help brighten the lives of our veteran patients. Whether you are assisting with a veteran pinning ceremony, attending veteran-centered events our team organizes, or directly visiting veteran patients for companionship, you can make a difference in the lives of hospice patients. While you are brightening your fellow veteransโ€™ lives you might find that your life becomes brighter too!

AccentCare Hospice, formerly Seasons Hospice, serves patients and families across southeastern Michigan, including in your area. We are currently seeking new veteran volunteers to provide a wide variety of services to our patients and their loved ones. Our vet-to-vet direct care volunteers visit with patients wherever they call home to provide companionship and socialization. They may assist with legacy projects to honor the patientsโ€™ life or sit vigil and provide a supportive presence at the bedside of patients who are actively dying. Veteran volunteers also help our team honor veterans through pinning ceremonies and events in the community. These are just a few of the ways veteran volunteers in our organization support our patients, families, and staff.

Even if you only have a few hours a month to give, we would be honored to have you join our team and support our mission of offering compassionate, personalized hospice care. Training is free and flexible to fit your schedule and you are able to choose what area you want to serve.

We look forward to hearing from you and helping you find ways to use your experience as a veteran to honor and support fellow veterans at the end of life.
