Job description

The Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) Float will have the responsibility for assisting the dentist. The Registered Dental Assistant reports directly to the supervising dentist.   The RDA Float is required to travel on a regular basis to all GVHC sites.

This position will support our 12 Dental Sites in Merced, Stanislaus, and San Joaquin Counties.
Schedule is Mon - Fri, 7:45am - 4:30pm.

Compensation: $23.57 - $24.75 an hour, plus daily $18.00 bonus for working scheduled days

Essential Duties and Responsibilities    

  • Demonstrates effective communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Prepare tray set-up, sterile instruments.
  • Pass and receive instruments.
  • Mix cements, amalgam and impression materials.
  • Oral evacuation and retraction.
  • Seat, prepare, and dismiss patients.
  • Receive and place telephone calls.
  • Appointment control.
  • Inventory control.
  • Routine maintenance of equipment.
  • Operatory preparation and clean-up.
  • Oral hygiene instructions.
  • Records management.
  • Take blood pressure; take oral temperature.
  • Develop and mount x-ray.
  • Pour and trim diagnostic casts.
  • Fabricate custom trays.
  • Coronal polishing with State Board approved course.
  • Temporary cementation and removal of temporary crowns.
  • Size crowns and bands.
  • Remove cement supra-gingivally.
  • Place bases and liners on sound dentin.
  • Test pulp vitality.
  • Dry canals with absorbent points.
  • Mouth mirror inspection of oral cavity.
  • Place, wedge, and remove matrix.
  • Topical application of fluoride.
  • Remove sutures.
  • Other duties as required.

Min. Qualifications         

KNOWLEDGE: Dental office procedures and terminology. 

SKILLS: Current California Registered Dental Assistant Licensure. X-Ray Licensure. 

ABILITY TO: Perform dental offices procedures as assigned.  Accommodate changes in daily and hourly schedules; travel to all sites is required, including during the workday.

Physical Demands            

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds and push up to 100 pounds (on wheels). Must be able to hear staff on the phone and those who are served in-person, and speak clearly in order to communicate information to clients and staff. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. Must have high manual texterity.  Must be able to reach above the shoulder level to work, must be able to bend, squat and sit, stand, stoop, crouching, reaching, kneeling, twisting/turning, fingering and feeling.

The noise level in the work environment is usually average.

Education/Experience Requirements    

  • Current California Registered Dental Assistant Licensure.
  • X-Ray License.
  • Dental office procedures and terminology.
  • GED or High school graduate.
  • Bilingual Spanish/English as required for positions.
  • Clerical and computer skills.
  • Acceptable driving record, a valid CDL and liability vehicle insurance required
