What We're Looking For:

If you are a science and space enthusiast who is excited about working onย cutting-edgeย technology and with a talented team of professionals, then you will be excited about theย Operations Engineer I, Ground System Operatorย openingย with Iridium for a Space Development Agency (SDA) project. As a Ground System Operator I, you willย participateย in monitoring and controlling ground systems atย one ofย the SDA Operations Centers.ย You will work 12-hour shifts with a team in a 24/7, multi-satellite operations environment. You will thrive in this role if you have a desire to learn and execute new technical skills and are highly motivated and passionate about engineering and space systems.ย RELOCATION BONUS PROVIDED!ย Inquire about details.ย ย 

This position requires an active/current Secret Security Clearance or the ability to obtain a Secret Security Clearance (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active).ย 

What You'll Do:
  • Assistย withย real-time monitoring of the ground system in support of the SDAย missionย 
  • Participate in analyzingย operational data and executingย first level troubleshooting to resolveย issuesย 
  • Assistย with monitoringย spacecraft fleet-level health andย statusย 
  • Work collaboratively with the team to detect and recover from issues within the Iridium ground system applications, and for a global network of remote teleport antennas and Wide Area Network (WAN).ย 
  • Support real-time anomaly investigation and resolution and follow established Fault Escalation policies andย proceduresย 
  • Support process improvement initiatives by properly documenting all events through an anomaly and issue reportingย processย 
  • Createย accurate,ย timely, and descriptive event logging for all ground system outages or systemย eventsย 
What You'll Need to Succeed:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field OR equivalent relevant experience in a network operations or spacecraft operations environment in lieu of degreeย 
  • A basic knowledge of generalย engineering experienceย 
  • Strong communicationย skills, with the ability to communicate key messages and ideas clearly andย effectivelyย 
  • Can cultivateย meaningful relationships with your manager and members of your team, while beingย open and responsive to constructive feedback as they guide and mentorย youย 
  • The ability toย think outside the boxย to help solve problems, with the humility to ask for help whenย neededย 
  • Adaptability to a dynamic environment and the readiness to take on any new tasks that are handed toย youย 
  • A motivation to achieve outcomes andย resultsย 
  • Capable of handling multiple tasks at once and completing them on time with mostly no errorsย 
  • An eagerness to develop professionally, continuously learn, and share knowledge withย othersย 
Things Thatย Would beย Greatย if You Brought to the Table:
  • Experienceย in the LINUX operating system, as well as standard PC usage and applicationsย 
  • Familiarity with software development and programming skillsย

Work Environment:ย 

This position exclusively works onsite in a classified operations center; remote work is not available. The position isย largely sedentaryย withย the majority ofย the position sitting in a chair and working with a computer. The role uses basic office equipment including a phone, video, computer, keyboard,ย mouseย and printer. For meetings in person, this position will need to be able stand, walk within theย officeย and climb stairs on occasion.ย

Base Pay Range: $65,000 - $85,000 USD

Actual compensation will be determined based on a variety of factors and this range represents an estimate of compensation at the time of posting. Base salary is only one part of our compensation package for this role. You may also be eligible for company stock and annual bonus. Employee benefits also include medical, dental, and vision insurance coverage; 401(k) retirement plan options; paid time off and paid holidays; paid parental leave; and other discounts and perks.ย ย ย
