Job description

Join an award-winning Library! Schaumburg Township District Library has a great opportunity for a current high school junior, senior or college student. We are looking for an energetic, competent and detail-oriented Teen Technology Mentor to join our team. This is a part-time, temporary position working three (3) hours a week from October 12, 2026 through August 2, 2027. The hours for this position are Mondays from 4:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m.

The pay range for this position is $15.00/hour to $16.31/hour, based on skills and qualifications.

 

Position Summary:

The Teen Technology mentor will assist Teen Librarians with organizing and running teen programs. This includes a variety of technology and maker programs, including Pyrography Basics, 3D Design and Print, and Soldering. The mentor provides guidance to teen patrons during programs with patience and enthusiasm.

 

Requirements for All Employees:

  2. Ability to learn various job functions, perform them correctly, and understand the necessity in overall library operations
  3. Ability to independently function efficiently in a changing and varied environment with frequent interruptions
  4. Ability to exercise good judgment and focus on details
  5. Ability to follow all library policies and procedures
  6. Demonstrates commitment to incorporating principles of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion into everyday work

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist Teen Librarians in developing and running engaging and unique program activities for teens
  • Conduct room setup and clean up for each program
  • Promote Library programming, activities, and other opportunities for teens
  • Represent the library in a professional manner and abide by the staff policies and procedures of the library
  • Communicate effectively in person, over the phone, and in writing with patrons and staff at all site locations
  • Attend meetings and trainings as required or requested
  • Treat all patrons and employees fairly and with an open mind; maintain patron and employee confidentiality
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Education and/or Experience:

  • A current high school junior, senior, or college student
  • Computer Skills: Ability to use workplace technology including email, internet, intranet, and Library database systems; and position specific technologies including maker equipment
