Job description

Our Staff and Leaders are dedicated to providing the highest quality, safe and nurturing educational environment where diverse children, families and adults come together to learn and grow. We cherish children, support families, build community among diversity and pursue excellence in early education.

Key Result Areas of Responsibility:

1.Curriculum implementation:

a. Assisting in set up and implementation of planned activities will adhere to small group philosophy, anti-bias and developmentally appropriate curriculum.
b. Creates a warm, responsive and respectful environment for children and adults, responsible for learning positive approaches to discipline and other issues as trained by CDC Leadership staff.
c. Responsible for supporting, learning and utilizing the aspects of our program: Anti-bias curriculum, small group activities, primary care giving and continuity of care.

2.Creation of safe and educational environment:

a. is responsible for following Fairplex CDC Policies on the health & safety; as they relate to hand washing and cleaning the classroom.
b. Responsible to participate in creating a classroom and playground physical environment that maintains the Standards of ECERS and NAEYC Accreditation.
c. Responsible to maintain classroom storage areas and materials in a neat and orderly manner.
d .Responsible to maintain material usage in such a way to maximize the resources of CDC.

3.Maintain Written Developmental Records for Children and classroom:

a. Assistant Teacher are responsible for actively participating in efforts in collecting observational anecdotal records, documentation photos, childrens writing and art samples for maintenance of the childs portfolio.
b. Assistant Teacher is responsible for participating in the daily classroom record keeping as requested by the Lead Teacher.

4. Limitations of position:

The Assistant Teacher must refer all difficult situations to the Lead Teacher, Associate Teacher of his/her classroom. Responses to questions regarding childrens developmental progress need to be limited to daily activities, within your direct knowledge.

5. Work Schedule:

Positions that are regular scheduled part-time positions and full time positions. Hours and daily work schedule will be dependent upon individual classroom need, and will be coordinated by the Lead Teacher, and the Side Team Leader.

6. Professional Development:

The Assistant Teacher is required to attend all Staff In-Service Trainings. The Assistant Teacher is expected to continue his/her education in Child Development to the minimum of 12 units within at least 3 years of employment. Compensation depends upon levels of academic accomplishment and performance. Employees will have performance evaluations annually, and more often if difficult situations arrive.

Position Requirements:
1.Education requirements: The applicant must be a high school graduate or equivalent and have completed 6 units in Early Childhood Education or Child Development. Also must have or obtain a clear criminal clearance (fingerprint clearance) through the FBI and DOJ.( Minimum requirement for employment). Must hold current CPR Certification, 15 hours of health/safety training and current First Aide Certification.

2.Required Skills/knowledge: Must demonstrate knowledge and willingness to learn child growth and development, positive child guidance techniques, and basic classroom management. The assistant teacher must demonstrate good inter-personal relations, such as tact, patience and courtesy in dealing with children, families and co-workers.

3. Limitations of Authority: The Assistant Teacher must be supervised when participating in the classroom activities. The Assistant may not supervise children alone. The Assistant Teacher is not to discuss childrens developmental issues, disciplines or other issues which could be difficult and beyond training level. May only discuss the days events, or childs activities, which are positive in nature, any difficulties need to be handled by the Associate or Lead Teacher.

Physical Requirements of the Job:

  • Must be able to visually supervise children at all times.
  • Must be able to move about the Center, play yards, attending to the immediate and changing needs of all children at CDC.
  • Must be able to hear a child in distress and move quickly to that child.
  • Must be able to lift from 5 to 30 pounds, must be able to physically pick up a child.
  • Must be able to meet the physical demands of working with active children with minimum fatigue.
  • Must be able to travel from CDC to other locations on the Fairgrounds, without the assistance of a vehicle.
  • Must be able to answer phones and respond to phone calls.
