Right now, our Maple Valley, WA store is seeking an Assistant Store Manager!
Position Summary: The Assistant Store Manager provides direct supervision and leadership to all retail supervisors and hourly retail team members who have access to the vault, registers, or cash handling functions. This position is responsible for supporting the day-to-day operation of the retail store, ensuring operational excellence, regulatory compliance, exceptional customer service, and a safe and productive work environment. The Assistant Store Manager partners with the Store Manager to achieve sales, operational, staffing, and customer experience goals while supporting the mission and values of Goodwill.
Hourly Rate: $20.00 per hour
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The Assistant Store Manager responsibilities include the following and other duties as assigned:
Store Operations & Retail Leadership
  • Support the Store Manager in achieving operational, financial, and customer service objectives within the retail environment.
  • Perform all store opening and closing procedures and responsibilities
  • Provide daily leadership and oversight of retail operations to ensure efficient store performance and a positive customer experience.
  • Maximize sales through proper stock rotation, merchandising, signage, and inventory levels of new and used goods
  • Assure a continuous flow of product through production support and partnership with inventory and new goods
  • Ensure store audits are completed and maintained at or above established standards.
  • Lead and coordinate semi-annual inventory processes, including preparation, execution, and follow-up activities.
  • Monitor safe access procedures and ensure all cash handling activities comply with company policies and established controls.
  • Oversee supply ordering and inventory management processes to support retail operations.
  • Delegate work assignments appropriately to retail supervisors and hourly retail team members to support efficient store operations.
  • Monitor operating expenses and assist in managing store budgets, including monthly and annual reporting requirements.
  • Ensure payroll expenses remain within budget parameters.
  • Ensure payroll records, timekeeping, wage requests, and employee documentation are accurate and current.
  • Process and maintain records for employee reimbursements, petty cash, and travel-related expenses.
  • Ensure building systems and facilities are properly maintained by submitting and monitoring maintenance requests.
  • Actively participate in interviewing, onboarding, and training retail employees in accordance with Goodwill's hiring guidelines and practices.

Loss Prevention, Safety, & Asset Protection
  • Serve as the store's security "captain" partnering with management and Loss Prevention to protect company assets from internal and external theft.
  • Promote awareness and adherence to all company policies related to asset protection, cash control, and operational compliance within the retail store environment.
  • Investigate, document, and communicate security incidents and operational concerns as appropriate.
  • Ensure Loss Prevention (LP) audits are completed and maintained at acceptable levels.
  • Verify that security and safety systems are operational, including door locks, alarms, bank deposits, refunds, vouchers, and incident reporting procedures.

Customer Service
  • Deliver and model exceptional customer service standards for a diverse customer base.
  • Foster a positive, welcoming, and inclusive retail shopping experience for customers, donors, and employees.
  • Resolve customer concerns professionally and efficiently while maintaining a focus on customer satisfaction and relationship building.

Qualifications/Basic Job Requirements:
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent
  • Three years related experience in retail supervision or management with proven incremental supervisory advancement
  • Exceptional analytical, judgment, decision-making and communications skills
  • Superior coaching, leadership and interpersonal skills, including the ability to build understanding and consensus

Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, and average. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra when working on spreadsheets. Ability to create and manage departmental budget.
Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Office products, specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Other Skills and Abilities: Comprehensive understanding of all aspects of Assistant Store Manager
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Washington State Driver's License required

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk, hear and type.
