Summary of the role:
As a Construction Assistant focusing on warehouse operations, you will lead staging, loading/unloading, stocking and inventory, fleet, tool, and equipment maintenance and management, and overall warehouse operations and logistics. You will purchase, pickup/receive materials and equipment and perform other duties to make affordable energy happen for low-income families and communities. You will also work closely with Construction team members and other departments to coordinate installations, events, and communicate with clients and perform other duties as assigned.
What you will be doing:
  • Take the lead in staging, loading, and unloading equipment, including packing and unpacking parts, boxes, and bins from trucks/vans/trailers before and after installation projects
  • Take the lead with warehouse inventory and organization and fleet, tool, and equipment maintenance and management
  • Take the lead in receiving equipment and deliveries and picking up equipment and materials
  • Order/purchase and stock the warehouse while seeking discounts and/or donations.
  • Train and mentor volunteers, students, and/or job trainees as assigned in warehouse operations and other construction related activities
  • Participate in GRID's equity, inclusion, and diversity work.
  • Perform computer and administrative tasks related to job duties and to communicate with team
  • Other job duties as assigned include: conducting site visits, assisting with/designing and/or installing solar electric systems, coordinating inspections, troubleshooting installations, putting together permit packages, utility interconnection agreements, and assisting with rebate paperwork, equipment purchasing, hardware store runs, equipment unloading and loading, answering homeowner and volunteer questions, talking to media and generally participating in activities necessary to make solar happen for low-income families and communities
Requirements
Your area of expertise:
  • Warehouse, logistics, and/or solar experience
  • Excellent communication skills (ability to work with volunteers and clients, ability to represent GRID Alternatives positively to diverse populations)
  • Ability to work both independently with minimal supervision and work effectively and respectfully within diverse teams
  • Flexibility and willingness to embrace change, go the extra mile, and bring ideas and energy to rapidly growing organization
  • Availability to work on evenings and weekends and overnight work trips
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record
  • Travel throughout San Bernardino, Riverside, and Inyo counties
  • Must be able to carry/lift up to 70 lbs
  • Must be able to work in outdoor weather condition
  • Must be able to ascend/descend ladders
It would be great if you also had:
  • General construction knowledge, experience, and skills
  • Forklift-certified
  • Passion for sustainability, affordable housing, the environment, or environmental justice, or just generally grounded in making the world a better place
  • Experience in training and/or working with volunteers
  • Proficiency with Gmail, and Microsoft Excel
  • Experience with Salesforce or similar CRM database
  • Bilingual English / Spanish

Compensation:
The compensation range for this fulltime position is $22-25/hour. The base pay that will actually be offered will vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, location, experience and take into account internal equity.

Where you will sit & the places you may go...
The ideal candidate will sit in the Inland Empire- California. This position may require up to 25% out-of-town travel to regional offices and special projects such as org-wide celebrations, team building exercises, etc. Availability to work nights and weekends may very rarely be required. GRID Alternatives may provide vehicles for work travel and/or travel reimbursement for personal vehicle use. In this instance, applicants must hold a valid driver's license and have a good driving record.
