Job description

Designer, Instructional Media Technology, is responsible for designing and creating compelling multimedia and immersive experiences for ABS learning solutions. Utilize various aspects of design, project management, and development, specializing in media technology learning approaches. This is a role based out of our Global Headquarters located in the Greater Houston area with a current hybrid schedule requiring a minimum of 3 days on-site. 

What You Will Do:

  • Work collaboratively with the learning development team to design and develop engaging learning solutions and communications within the project scope, using instructional design principles, such as adult learning theory, instructional system designs, and the 6Ds.
  • Ability to build strong relationships with subject matter experts and stakeholders
  • Collaborate with a team of creative professionals to deliver assigned projects within the designated timeframe at a high level of quality.
  • Develop and/or incorporate 2D or 3D animation, as appropriate.
  • Design, create, modify, and deliver multimedia and web-based graphics, video, and audio elements.
  • Recommend visual and audio format, approach, content, level, and medium to most effectively achieve desired results.
  • Develop layout design and concept. 
  • Modify multimedia assets to achieve desired objectives and results.
  • Ensure multimedia assets are developed on time and to standards.
  • Assist with video and audio productions, collaborate with the team to determine composition and recommend overall design of media productions, and edit special effects.
  • Stay up to date on new technologies, initiatives, and trends within the scope of expertise to provide ideas, guidance, and recommendations.

What You Will Need:

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Art, Animation, Instructional Technology Media, or equivalent experience
  • A minimum of three years of hands-on experience with Adobe Creative Suite (e.g. Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, After Effects, Animate) is critically required.
  • One year of experience in audio and video production and editing (e.g., Pro Tools, Audition, Premier Pro, Audacity). 
  • Minimum of 2 years of adult learning design and development. 
  • Marine engineering or oil and gas experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Instructional design and project management for media technology solutions.
  • Adult learning theory, project production processes, and media technology learning design in both formal and informal learning environments, and the relationship between design and learning evaluation/assessment.
  • Ability to organize and manage multiple projects and deadlines. Demonstrates flexibility and critical thinking skills when managing changes in scope, implementation, timelines, and priority of a project.
  • Ability to problem solve and work in a team environment. 
  • Action-oriented. Should be able to follow up on feedback to ensure positive outcomes.
  • Understanding of 3D modeling, rendering, and animation (e.g., 3D Max, Rhino, Inventor, Blender, Video CoPilot).
  • Experience in audio and video production and editing (e.g., Pro Tools, Audition, Premier Pro, Audacity) is a plus.
  • Knowledge of HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, or In-Line scripting is a plus.
  • Possesses a thorough understanding of the process of building e-Learning courseware, including creative concepts, scripts, and storyboards. Demonstrated use of Articulate Storyline.
  • Skills in creating, designing, and editing graphics and media content with tools like Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and Animate.
  • Excellent client service skills with an upbeat attitude. 
  • Working knowledge of the ABS Health, Safety, Quality & Environmental Management System.
