Job description

Occupational Therapist - Full Time - Home Health 

*$10,000 Sign On Available with 2 -years commitment

*$7,500 Location Relocation Assistance 

  1. Maintains a professional image and exhibits excellent customer relations to patients, visitors, physicians, and co-workers in accordance with our Service Excellence Standards and Core Values. 
  2. The Occupational Therapist is responsible for providing occupational therapy services in accordance with the physician's written orders. Interacts daily with patients, family members and agency personnel and on a regular basis with physicians. 
  3. Supervised by the Team Clinical Manager and collaborates with Home Health Assistants and Occupational Therapy Assistants when appropriate. 
  4. Directly accountable to the Team Clinical Manager/Director of Operations McLeod Home Health. Functions within agency and unit policies and procedures. Manages own time productively and independently and complies with attendance and reporting requirements. 
  5. Must be knowledgeable of state therapy laws, the Conditions of Participation of the Federal Health Insurance Program for the Aged and Disable *Title XVIII, Social Security Act, Section 1861), and the regulations relating to Conditions of Participation for Home Health Agencies (Part 405, Section 1201-1243), JCAHO, and all other pertinent regulatory issues. Must be knowledgeable about conflict resolution techniques and customer relations. Must have understanding of all agency services and referral systems. Must possess knowledge of community resources available to client base. 
  6. Demonstrates expertise in communication and interpersonal relationships. Must possess excellent writing skills. Must be able to use computer. Must have excellent organizational skills. 
  7. Must be highly adaptable and have the ability to exercise high degree of initiative and judgment in carrying out work assignments. Must have excellent critical thinking and problem solving skills. 
  8. Must be able to function in an office setting which includes standing, walking, sitting, etc. must be able to use office equipment such as coper, calculators, etc. must have a very good manual dexterity in carrying out technical and physical aspects of clinical care and operating clinical equipment. Must have good hearing and eyesight. 
  9. Must have at least six months experience in a home health setting or other health care setting. 
  10. Graduate of an accredited program in Occupational Therapy. 
  11. Moderate physical activity involved, with daily and frequent walking, standing, bending, lifting and carrying of object weighing up to fifty pounds, sitting, and driving. Full range of motion and strenuous movements necessary when performing patient care. 
  12. In an office which is well ventilated, lighted and temperature regulated. In the home setting and related travel, conditions may be in climate, cramped or require special accommodations for patient care. In such conditions, safety must be responsibility of worker. 
  13. In the office, minimal. Must use own car when company transportation is not available for travel to remote sites, often in rural, isolated areas. Must be able to handle potential problems related to safety issues for staff and patients in all settings. 
  14. Must be familiar with principles of growth and development over the life span and the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpretation of information needed for each patient's requirements relative to his/her age specific needs to provide the care needed. 
  15. High degree of maturity, self-motivation, creativity, initiative and independent judgment required. 
  16. Must have responsible, ethical, self-initiating professional behavior. Effective interpersonal skills, empathy and ability to listen and plan with staff/patients/customers/physicians are essential characteristics. Must be able to efficiently communicate with a diverse population. Self-awareness and self-evaluation are important characteristics as are accuracy in collecting data, completion of records and follow-up. 
  17. Works closely with other staff, students, and other external agencies and groups. 
  18. Adheres to department dress code. Presents a neat, clean, well-groomed appearance.

Work Schedule: 80 Hours Biweekly. Full Time. This position will cover Florence County.

Qualifications/Training:

  • At least six months experience in a home health setting or other health care setting.

Licenses/Certifications/Registrations/Education:

  • Must possess a current valid South Carolina driver's license and automobile insurance as required by law.
  • Must be at least 21 years old to be covered under McLeod Health's fleet vehicle insurance policy. Must meet McLeod policy for driving eligibility. License and registration as required by law.
  • Occupational Therapy license, BLS Certification (American Heart Association). Possession of professional liability insurance is encouraged.
