Position Purpose
To participate as part of a decision-making team (coaching staff) under the direction of the head coach in planning, coaching, recruiting, administering, and promoting the Women's Rowing program within NCAA, EAWRC, Ivy League, and institutional standards. The Assistant Coach plays a critical role in achieving the overall goals of the Women's Rowingprogram by providing important recommendations, suggestions, and decisions regarding game strategies, line-ups, priority listing of recruits, etc., as well as offering initiative and independent judgment (e.g., in providing coaching instruction, evaluating, and communicating with prospective recruits and their parents, and representing the women's rowing program to constituents).
Description
Dartmouth College seeks an Assistant Coach for Women's Crew. This is a full-time position with benefits. The successful candidate will assist the Head Coach with all areas of the program including recruiting, training/regatta planning and coaching, individual skill development and administrative tasks. Bachelor's degree or the equivalent combination of education and experience required. Six years experience as an athlete and/or coach in a competitive rowing program required; intercollegiate experience preferred. Excellent communication skills and the ability to recruit effectively within the Ivy League philosophy of no athletic grants-in-aid and highly selective admissions standards. Proven ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituents in a diverse community. Coaching/Mentoring
- Contributes to planning and implementing the conditioning, training, and coaching programs for women's rowing.
- Assists head coach in planning and conducting team practices, training, conditioning, and competitions.
- Prepares scouting reports and game plans for opponents.
- During competition, makes recommendations to the head coach regarding adjustments to game plans and line-ups.
- Teaches rowing skills to student-athletes during team practices, games, and individual/small group training sessions.
- Evaluates performance of athletes and offers technical, strategic, and mental instruction and advice.
- Demonstrates a sincere interest in the academic, personal, and physical welfare of each student-athlete counsels team members, and consults with the head coach and appropriate College staff as necessary for the resolution of issues.
- Independently seeks and develops new training concepts and sport-specific knowledge to enhance the overall knowledge of the coaching staff.

- Maintains appropriate recruiting records as required by the EAWRC, Ivy League and NCAA.
- Maintains knowledge of the College's programs and opportunities to effectively inform prospects.

- Provides input in planning and administering the budget for the women's rowing program, which includes assessing needs for equipment, team travel, recruiting, etc.

- Communicates with alumni, parents, and other supporters regarding status of the rowing program.
