Job description

Job Summary
The Alumni Association of the University of Michigan is seeking an Part-Time Editorial Assistant (approximately 24 hours a week) to support the production of Michigan Alum magazine and digital newsletters by providing editorial and administrative support to the content and creative team.

Responsibilities*
Editorial and administrative support
  • Coordinate the collection, preparation, and production of class notes, obituaries, and letters to the editor.
  • Manage correspondence with alumni submitting class notes, photographs, and other editorial materials.
  • Coordinate the mailing of individual magazine copies to alumni and stakeholders.
  • Write brief department articles, campus news items, photo captions, or other copy as needed.
  • Participate in internal and external editorial meetings, including weekly design meetings.
  • Provide collaborative feedback on writing, design, and production as it relates to the magazine.
  • Provide editorial assistance to the editor, including research, fact-checking, proofreading, writing, and editing.

Supervision Received:
Direct supervision is received from the senior editor
Required Qualifications*
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • At least one year of professional or internship experience in editorial work, communications, publishing, marketing, or administration.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple assignments, meet deadlines, and follow established processes.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail
  • Ability to utilize Google Suite, including mail, sheets, docs, slides, etc.
  • Team player and a strong attitude for collaboration
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • A proven ability to generate creative, innovative solutions to issues with a can do attitude with a mindset to be results-driven.
  • Ability to work effectively with leaders and colleagues in a multicultural and diverse environment.

Modes of Work
Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment. Learn more about the work modes .

The Alumni Center is located in Ann Arbor, MI. This position is hybrid.
