Job description

The assistant project superintendent's primary responsibility is to support the project superintendent and project manager in the successful completion of assigned projects. A major function of this role is learning the project superintendent responsibilities. The assistant project superintendent participates in job site safety, quality, project scheduling, and communicates with project team on field and constructability issues. Occasional travel is required.

Essential Functions

Ensuring that all work is performed in accordance with contractual and quality standards. Assist the project team in scheduling the daily activities of work and taking necessary action to assure that the project objectives of cleanliness, safety, schedule, quality, and standard operating procedures are met. Submit assigned daily paperwork such as field reports, scheduled updates, and e-mail correspondence for project superintendent to review. Monitoring incremental project schedules to ensure upcoming events are on track and are being proactively attended to. May be assigned responsibility for a specific segment of a project. Learn leadership and guidance principles from project superintendent and project team to ensure successful management of project. Maintains and supports safety programs by promoting and maintaining a culture that values safety, health, and cleanliness. Assists in maintaining and leading the on-site QA/QC plan throughout life of project. Assist in the preparation and execution of the project closeout process. Attends and participates in pre-construction, progress, and other project and staff meetings. Participating in training and other forms of continuous improvement initiatives. Assists Superintendent with the SWPPP Program. Performs other position appropriate duties as required in a competent, professional, and courteous manner.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Construction Skills Strives to learn and understand the means and methods of construction and processes. Has a basic to intermediate knowledge of civil, architectural, mechanical, and electrical work. Understands the sequencing strategy of work to be put in place that coincides with the project schedule. Work towards learning all aspects of field construction including technical and management techniques. This includes interacting with subcontractors, project team, and design team. Action Oriented Proactive, plans well and addresses problems/issues efficiently. Highly organized with strong attention to detail required to produce quality work. Is committed to doing quality work the first time. Works to meet or beat schedules and is driven to bring closure to avoid long punch lists. Interpersonal Skills Strong time management working with deadlines, and the ability to perform a variety of tasks simultaneously in an accurate and timely manner. Strong in leadership, problem solving, and conflict resolution and can manage difficult situations to a successful conclusion. Strong customer service skills needed to build and maintain relationships with owners, subcontractors, and vendors. Goal oriented and can react quickly to challenging circumstances to achieve the desired end result. Behavior that supports positive work environment keeping in line with company mission and values.

Minimum Requirements
  • A.S. degree in construction management or similar.
  • Minimum 5 yearsโ€™ experience in the construction industry with a commercial and/or industrial general contractor.
  • Experience in managing a direct hire workforce and subcontractors.
  • Proficient with computer software used in the construction industry.
  • OSHA 10 & 30, CPR/First Aid

The Employee must be able to work and adapt to outside temperature fluctuations such as the heat of the summer and the cold of the winter months. The work in this position is performed both indoors and outdoors.
