Job description

TOCCI has an immediate opening for an Assistant Superintendent.

TOCCI is seeking an Assistant Superintendent to support in all aspects of project execution, ensuring work is completed in accordance with the project schedule, quality standards, and safety programs.

Reporting to the Project Superintendent, the Assistant Superintendent partners closely with the field team to manage subcontractors, uphold safety and quality standards, and keep projects on schedule. This role is a critical development step for future field leadership at TOCCI.

The ideal candidate is a diligent, organized self-starter with strong construction fundamentals, a proactive "roll-up-your-sleeves" work ethic, and the ability to build trust with subcontractors, inspectors, and the project team.

Responsibilities:
  • Support Field Team Leadership: Support the Superintendent's field team leadership and daily execution; assume responsibility for client satisfaction.
  • Manage Subcontractors: Assure subcontractor compliance with contractual, ethical, code, safety, and quality obligations; hold subcontractors accountable to the project schedule; resolve tensions and work issues; run subcontractor and ad hoc meetings.
  • Coordinate Authorities & Inspections: Maintain strong working relationships with building and fire inspectors and other regulatory authorities to support approval of work and issuance of Certificates of Occupancy.
  • Control Site Logistics & Conditions: Oversee mobilization and demobilization; run a clean, safe, and productive jobsite; develop and maintain the site logistics plan; enforce controlled access, housekeeping, hazardous materials handling, and waste management; oversee efficient use of tools and equipment.
  • Support Safety Program Management: Partner with TOCCI's Safety Director and the Project Superintendent to ensure OSHA compliance and project-specific safety requirements; conduct daily safety inspections and quickly resolve issues; maintain a positive, cooperative relationship with OSHA inspectors.
  • Assist Schedule Management: Assist the Superintendent in developing the master schedule; assure on-time delivery through work sequencing and manpower management; meet schedule milestones, material deliveries, and inspections.
  • Support Quality & Commissioning: Develop and manage work-specific QA/QC checklists; conduct daily work inspections and require rework as necessary; oversee mock-ups, material testing, and other quality assurance procedures; coordinate the punch list and co-lead commissioning.
  • Support Cost Control: Control General Conditions expenses and provide accurate accounting to the Superintendent and Project Manager; support the Project Manager in maintaining the budget through change order control and verification.
  • Maintain Field Reporting: Maintain the field as-built set; keep accurate and thorough daily field reports; contribute progress analysis, safety review, and subcontractor evaluations to the Monthly Progress Report.
  • Support Closeout: Work with the Project Superintendent to ensure timely completion, resolution of all subcontractor and vendor accounts, and finalization of all owner change orders.
Qualifications + Experience
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Construction Technology, Construction Management, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 4+ years of field engineering or similar construction experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite and Procore required; familiarity with Microsoft Project, Revit, and Navisworks a plus.
  • Commitment to professional development.
  • Knowledgeable, adept listener, diligent, capable, self-starter, organized, and proactive with a roll-up-your-sleeves work ethic.
  • Collaborative: works effectively with project management, subcontractors, inspectors, and the field team.
  • Accountable: owns outcomes and drives resolution.
Physical + Travel Requirements
  • 100% field-based, with local and regional travel required.
  • Good hearing and vision (aids that provide reliable normal hearing and/or vision are acceptable).
  • Ability to navigate grades, rough terrain, and muddy ground; sit, stand, and walk for lengthy periods; climb ladders; maintain balance on scaffolds and catwalks; and lift and move weights up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to use hands and fingers to operate a computer, tablet, and telephone devices, and to prepare written materials.
  • Ability to withstand occasional occupational risks, such as exposure to toxic chemicals, dirt, odors, noise, and weather extremes.
  • Ability to travel to and from the project site or stakeholder facilities without assistance.
