Job description

Summary

Our client is seeking an organized and proactive Assistant Project Manager to support Project Management and Field Operations teams on commercial electrical construction projects. This full-time, in-office position will work closely with Project Managers, foremen, field supervisors, general contractors, architects, engineers, vendors, accounting, and internal departments to keep multiple projects organized and moving forward.

The ideal candidate has prior construction experience and understands project coordination, documentation, field communication, procurement, RFIs, submittals, change orders, scheduling, billing support, and closeout.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Support Project Managers throughout project planning, construction, and closeout.
  • Track open items, deadlines, follow-ups, and project deliverables.
  • Prepare and track RFIs, submittals, change orders, and project correspondence.
  • Maintain RFI, submittal, procurement, change order, and closeout logs.
  • Review project emails and identify action items, missing information, and next steps.
  • Coordinate with GCs, field teams, vendors, engineers, architects, and internal departments.
  • Track material approvals, purchase orders, long-lead items, fabrication, and deliveries.
  • Assist with reviewing drawings, specifications, addenda, bulletins, and revisions.
  • Help identify scope changes and potential cost or schedule impacts.
  • Prepare meeting notes, project updates, action lists, and follow-up correspondence.
  • Support manpower planning, inspections, shutdowns, deliveries, and field coordination.
  • Assist with project billing, schedules of values, change order billing, and cost tracking.
  • Track punch-list items, warranties, as-builts, O&M manuals, testing reports, and final closeout requirements.
  • Ensure project teams have current drawings, approved submittals, and updated project information.
  • Follow up consistently until assigned items are fully resolved.
  • Attend occasional job-site meetings or project visits when required.
Qualifications & Requirements
  • Prior construction experience required.
  • Assistant Project Manager, Project Engineer, Project Coordinator, or similar experience preferred.
  • Electrical construction experience strongly preferred.
  • Understanding of RFIs, submittals, change orders, procurement, project logs, and closeout.
  • Ability to read construction drawings and specifications at a basic to intermediate level.
  • Understanding of construction schedules, deadlines, and field coordination.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Highly organized and able to manage multiple projects and priorities.
  • Proactive and able to follow up independently without constant reminders.
  • Ability to recognize potential cost, schedule, scope, or field impacts.
  • Comfortable communicating with Project Managers, GCs, field teams, vendors, engineers, and leadership.
  • Strong computer skills, including Excel, Outlook, Word, Bluebeam/Adobe PDF, and project management systems.
Preferred Experience
  • Electrical subcontractor experience.
  • Commercial tenant improvement, retail, hospitality, office, or ground-up projects.
  • Lighting, switchgear, electrical equipment, controls, low voltage, or fire alarm coordination.
  • Procore, Bluebeam, BuildingConnected, PlanGrid, Accubid, or similar construction software.
  • Change order preparation, billing support, schedule-of-values documentation, or cost tracking.
  • Material procurement and long-lead equipment tracking.
  • Project closeout, including as-builts, warranties, O&M manuals, punch lists, testing, and final inspections.
