Job description

Assistant SuperintendentThe Assistant Superintendent will assume responsibility for the on-site management of the construction project.
This position is based in our Edmonton, AB office.What You Will Be Working On
  • Manage cost control during construction.

  • Coordinate trade contractors.

  • Direct preconstruction activities such as schedule development, construction sequencing and value engineering.

  • Assist with bid clarification of trade contractors with regards to scope of work, costs and schedule.

  • Work closely with the Superintendent to prepare and execute project plans.

  • Implement health, safety and environmental procedures on site in accordance with legislation and company policy to ensure the safety of all workers and protection of the public.

  • Effectively manage own workforce, equipment, materials and trade contractors to attain targeted profit.

  • Achieve project schedule milestones by looking ahead and identifying weekly deliverables for own forces and trade contractors.

  • Implement corrective action where necessary to catch up and meet key milestone dates.

  • Proactively identify, address and resolve issues and problems as or before they occur.

  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with clients, consultants and sub-trades with a focus on mutual trust and respect.

What We Are Looking For
  • Undergraduate degree or diploma in construction management, engineering or a trades background

  • Certification of First Aid/CPR (certificate), WHMIS

  • 5+ years' experience in the construction industry, preferably health care, education, sports and recreation construction

  • Possess valid Driver's License and access to a reliable vehicle

  • Strong familiarity with contract administration, understanding drawings, specifications, architectural and engineering standards and building practices, including building codes

  • Full understanding of mechanical and electrical installations, including commissioning and handover

  • Excellent budgeting, costing and scheduling skills

  • Solid understanding of construction industry practices, OBC, OHSA and WCB regulations and safety standards, OHS Certificate

  • Experience using MS Word, Outlook, MS Project, Electronic Document Management System, Bluebeam, and Plan Grid

  • Strong leadership skills with experience managing all disciplines, internal employees and external sub-trades

  • Ability to inspire trust in difficult situations by instilling confidence and engaging people on matters that affect them

  • Ability to lead and operate within an environment where change happens frequently

  • Ability to forge, grow and maintain positive relationships with multiple groups

  • Strong written and oral communication skills

  • Able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously and meet the time demands of unpredictable activities; capable of handling pressure and challenges in a dynamic business environment

  • Ability to work within tight deadlines and prioritization of work to achieve them

  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
