Job description

The Assistant Strategy Manager supports business strategy formulation and drives execution, proactive opportunity spotting, and business development for a team of lawyers focused on high-profile litigation. This role involves close collaboration with the Founding Partners, Chief Strategy Officer, Partners and other members of firm-wide leadership.

Note the internal job title will be Assistant Product Manager.

Supervisor: Managing Director of Global Products

Location: New York, NY, or San Francisco, CA

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Opportunity Spotting & Market Intelligence: Proactively identify emerging disputes, industry trends, and competitive insights to pursue opportunities for new business.

  • Strategic Planning & Global Execution: Support the development and implementation of business plans, partnering with lawyers and international colleagues to drive relationship cultivation across various markets to further the firm's strategic objectives.

  • Project Management: Oversee the execution of firmwide strategic initiatives, ensuring the development of action plans, timely follow-ups, and adherence to deadlines.

  • Stakeholder Preparation: Craft key messaging for firm leaders and attorneys ahead of business development meetings with potential clients and referral sources.

  • Performance Analytics: Synthesize key business development metrics to measure and refine profit-generating initiatives.

  • Competitive Research & Analysis: Conduct due diligence on referral sources and potential clients to propose impactful messaging and identify opportunities for collaboration.

  • Content & Thought Leadership: Work closely with Marketing & Communications to develop thought leadership content and steer media outreach efforts.

  • Knowledge Sharing & Training: Collaborate with Knowledge Management & Learning to facilitate product-specific training and promote firmwide knowledge capture.

Background:

  • Education & Experience: Bachelor's degree required, with 2-3 years of experience in a professional services organization or similar.

  • AI Tools: familiarity with, or desire to learn AI tools to drive productivity, research market trends and drive relationship management.

  • Analytical & Data-Driven Mindset: Experience with data analysis and AI driven visualization tools is a plus.

  • Time Management & Prioritization: Ability to navigate and manage competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high-quality execution.

  • Intellectual Curiosity: Proactive in asking questions, seeking insights, and developing subject-matter expertise.

  • Operational Excellence: Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills; exceptional attention to detail; ability to anticipate needs and follow through effectively.

  • Relationship Management: Commitment to cultivating relationships across the firm with professionalism, diplomacy, and discretion.

  • Collaboration: Thrive in a team-oriented environment across multiple time zones, cultures, and levels of seniority.

  • Flexibility: Willingness to work additional hours as needed and support broader Strategy team initiatives; occasional travel may be required.

At the time of posting, the salary range for this role is $75,000 (minimum) - $100,000 (maximum). This range is based on a full-time work schedule. Other compensation may include an annual discretionary bonus. The successful candidate's actual salary will be determined based on permissible, non-discriminatory factors, including but not limited to relevant experience, qualifications, licensure/certifications, training, skills, and market data.
