Animal Health Care Center is a small animal practice focused on providing high-quality patient care, and we are seeking an experienced Veterinary Technician Assistant to join our after-hours urgent care team.
This position is ideal for a veterinary professional who is confident working with patients in a fast-paced environment and understands the importance of staying calm, organized, and compassionate when pets and their families need immediate medical attention.
At Animal Health Care Center, we value teamwork, communication, and high-quality patient care. Our after-hours team works closely together to provide efficient, compassionate care for urgent and unexpected medical situations while maintaining a positive and supportive workplace.
Schedule: Monday–Thursday, 3:30 PM–11:00 PM

Position Responsibilities
  • Assist veterinarians and veterinary technicians with urgent and emergency cases.
  • Perform safe and appropriate animal restraint for examinations, treatments, and procedures.
  • Obtain and process blood and other laboratory samples and run in-house diagnostic tests.
  • Assist with treatment procedures, wound care, catheter placement, and other medical procedures as directed.
  • Monitor patients and promptly communicate changes in patient condition to the veterinary team.
  • Assist with emergency stabilization and critical patient care as directed.
  • Prepare and maintain treatment areas, equipment, and supplies.
  • Assist with surgical procedures and other urgent care procedures when needed.
  • Administer medications and treatments as directed by the veterinarian or veterinary technician.
  • Provide compassionate patient care, including monitoring hospitalized or recovering patients.
  • Assist with radiographs and other diagnostic procedures as needed.
  • Maintain accurate medical records and document patient care appropriately.
  • Communicate professionally and compassionately with clients during stressful or urgent situations.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe clinical environment.
  • Work collaboratively with veterinarians, technicians, assistants, and reception staff to ensure efficient patient flow and quality care.
Experience Requirements
Previous veterinary experience is required. Candidates should have hands-on experience working in a veterinary hospital, clinic, urgent care, emergency, or similar animal healthcare setting.
The ideal candidate will have:
  • Experience handling and safely restraining dogs and cats.
  • Familiarity with veterinary terminology and common medical procedures.
  • Experience collecting blood samples and running laboratory diagnostics.
  • Experience assisting with treatments and procedures.
  • Ability to recognize changes in a patient's condition and promptly notify the veterinary team.
  • Familiarity with veterinary urgent care or emergency medicine is strongly preferred.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • A calm, dependable, and compassionate approach to patient care.
  • The ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
Work Requirements
  • Availability to work Monday–Thursday, 3:30 PM–11:00 PM.
  • Previous hands-on veterinary experience is required.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs independently and assist with team lifting of up to 150 lbs using proper equipment and techniques.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, including periods of up to 4 hours at a time, while performing clinical and computer-based tasks.
  • Ability to move confidently throughout the clinic and perform physical tasks in a fast-paced medical environment.
  • Ability to safely handle and restrain animals of varying sizes and temperaments.
  • Ability to remain calm and professional during urgent and emotionally stressful situations.
