Job description

McCallum Rock Drilling (MRD) is a rock drilling and blasting contractor based out of Chehalis, WA, that has been in business since 1988. MRD operates in commercial quarries, timberlands and construction sites throughout the Western US. 


MRD is seeking a full-time Diesel Mechanic to operate out of the Salt Lake City, Utah region. The ideal candidate will assist with the maintenance and repair on all of our rock drill equipment and vehicles. We are looking for an entry-level diesel mechanic that is skilled and has a passion for turning wrenches. Turning wrenches and working on equipment is not all he/she will be doing. There will be times where he/she is needed to transport parts and supplies to operators in the field, or service a pickup at our shop. We are looking for someone who has a great attitude and can be a reliable hand for our lead mechanic. The applicant must be willing to travel and must have a clean driving record. He or she will be expected to pass a pre-employment drug screening test. 


Minimum Responsibilities include: 

  • Owns hand tools related to diesel repair and maintenance 
  • Diagnose common problems quickly and efficiently 
  • Diagnose and repair air and oil leaks 
  • Ability to reassemble engines in vehicles, rock drills, trailers, and skid steers a plus
  • Experience troubleshooting and repairing electrical systems, brakes, hydraulic systems, and suspensions
  • Perform preventative maintenance, inspection, and correction of major and minor repairs on all equipment 
  • Safely operate welder, drill press, grinders, hoist, jacks, air tools, and other shop equipment 
  • Maintain a safe and clean working area 
  • Follow all MRD safety policies and procedures 
  • At least a couple years of construction or aggregate experience preferred 
  • Welding experience a plus 

Minimum skills and qualifications include: 

  • Able to pass criminal background check, MVR, and drug test 
  • Valid driver's license with a CLEAN record (no more than 3 minor violations in the last 3 years)
  • Be able to easily lift 50 lbs
  • Willing to work outdoors in ALL weather conditions
  • Willing to work all days and hours required
  • Ability to work an occasional weekend if needed 
  • Must have own tools 
  • Reliable and a team player
