Job description

Wintellisys, Inc. has joined with a large company in search of a Microsoft PowerBI.

This is a 12-month contract position in Columbia, SC.

The successful candidate shall provide expertise, guidance, and experience in managing the implementation and employing best practices of Power BI. The candidate selected will be responsible for training the team, planning, and developing a roll out strategy, analyzing the existing report requirements, best-practice development, and assisting in report creation. The Contractor shall provide ongoing project management to ensure the agency has expertise and guidance in converting reports into Power BI. The Contractor shall identify the number of individuals, job title(s), and level of expertise that will be involved in this project per section

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide training and support for subset of approximately 500 users.
  • Provide onsite and remote training as determined by the agency. The training must be provided in “train-the-trainer” form and shall accommodate a minimum of 10 super-users.
  • Collaborate with client on a strategy in determining the most impactful development of agenda(s), and training materials needed for the agency.
  • Conduct sessions using virtual meeting technology and/or in person. Method will be determined by the Chief Information Technology Officer or designee.
  • Provide training and support including time needed to prepare materials.
  • Help assess the existing customer Power BI posture
  • Assist client with the planning and setup of the infrastructure to support the Power BI Platform.
  • Establish Business to Business (B2B) connections with partners for access to reports. A minimum of four (4) connections (DB2, SQL, ACCESS and Web based API systems)
  • Once the sessions are complete, The Contractor shall provide client with a document that lays out the next steps that should be taken toward a best-practices implementation of Power BI.
  • The Contract shall accomplish the following for this Deliverable:
    • Next-steps recommendations
    • Power BI Platform Setup
    • B2B connections established
    • Provide thorough planning sessions
    • Identify existing report(s) logic
    • Evaluate underlying queries
    • Evaluate security requirements
    • Provide a design, where changes or consolidation are recommended
    • Assess if existing data sources exist to meet the need
    • Provide a level of effort (LOE) to the customer to develop the report
    • Upon approval, rewrite the report for Power BI using existing DB2, SQL and/or MS Access queries, providing knowledge transfer with the customer along the way.
    • Engineer to test the Power BI reports and delivery mechanism
    • Request customer to review reports with customer sign-off
  • The contractor shall provide a solution to support reporting requirements and best-practices development for client. This includes understanding existing data sources, identifying underlying tables, establishing new datasets (data connections), modeling relationships and queries and building them within Power BI as a base for future report creation. Support can be provided “over-the-shoulder” as needed. Otherwise, the contractor will develop functionality and provide knowledge transfer to client.
  • The contractor shall identify existing reports that can be may be consolidated into a single dashboard or report as a consequence of re-platforming to Power BI. Therefore, assessment of several, related reports may be completed prior to development in some cases.
  • The contractor shall use the following process for each report:

Assess

  • Identify existing report(s) logic
  • Evaluate underlying queries
  • Evaluate security requirements
  • Provide a design, where changes or consolidation are recommended
  • Assess if existing data sources exist to meet the need
  • Provide a level of effort (LOE) to the customer to develop the report

Develop

  • Upon approval, rewrite the report for Power BI using existing DB2, SQL and/or MS Access queries, providing knowledge transfer with the customer along the way.

Test

  • Engineer to test the Power BI reports and delivery mechanism
  • Request customer to review reports with customer sign-off

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • College diploma or university degree in the field of computer science and/or 3-5 years equivalent work experience.
  • High-level Power BI data architecture

  • Workspaces, sharing and distributing reports
  • User licensing approaches
  • Power BI desktop application requirements
  • Maintenance and scheduling
  • Branding, UX requirements and best practices
  • Highly self-motivated and directed.
