What does an assistant pottery teacher do?

An Assistant Pottery Teacher helps the lead pottery instructor in conducting classes, guiding students in basic pottery techniques, and maintaining a safe and organized studio environment. Their responsibilities often include preparing materials, assisting with demonstrations, providing one-on-one support to students, and cleaning up after classes. They play a key role in ensuring classes run smoothly and students receive individualized attention to develop their pottery skills.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an assistant pottery teacher?

To thrive as an Assistant Pottery Teacher, you need foundational knowledge of ceramics, basic pottery techniques, and some formal education or experience in art or art instruction. Familiarity with pottery wheels, kilns, glazing processes, and classroom management systems is typically required. Patience, strong communication, and the ability to encourage creativity are crucial soft skills for supporting and engaging students. These skills ensure a safe, inspiring learning environment where students can develop their skills and confidence in pottery.

What are some common challenges assistant pottery teachers face when supporting a diverse group of students?

Assistant Pottery Teachers often work with students of varying skill levels and learning styles, which can make it challenging to provide personalized guidance and maintain an inclusive classroom environment. Job description

Studio Lead| Leadership Growth Opportunity

The Creativity Cafe
South Point Shopping Center
99 Highway 81 West, Suite 101
McDonough, GA 30253

Help Us Build Henry County’s Favorite Creative Destination

The Creativity Cafe is a locally owned creative experience studio that has served McDonough and Henry County since 2016.

We offer pottery painting, pottery wheel experiences, clay handbuilding, canvas and wood painting, birthday parties, camps, workshops, field trips, showers, family events, adult experiences, and group programs.

We believe the artwork is only part of what our guests take home. Our true purpose is to help people connect, celebrate, build confidence, create meaningful keepsakes, and make lasting memories through creativity.

We are looking for a hands-on Studio Lead who wants to help us provide exceptional guest experiences, lead our team, improve daily studio operations, and grow into greater leadership responsibility.

This position includes a potential growth path to Assistant Manager based on performance and business needs.

About the Position

This is not a desk-only management role. The Studio Lead works alongside the team by:

  • Greeting and assisting customers

  • Stocking and merchandising
  • Processing customer pottery
  • Supporting sales, bookings, and customer follow-up
  • Capturing approved photos and videos
  • Helping prepare the studio for future business

We are looking for someone who takes ownership and does not wait to be told every task.

During busy periods, you will help manage customers, employees, transactions, events, and studio flow.

During slower periods, you will help prepare for upcoming bookings, organize supplies, follow up on customer inquiries, create displays, support approved social-media content, restock, complete inventory, and perform other work that supports future business.

What You’ll DoLead the Shift
  • Open and close the studio
  • Review the daily schedule and bookings
  • Assign work to Studio Assistants
  • Help train and coach employees
  • Monitor customer service and task completion
  • Complete required checklists and shift reports
  • Communicate concerns to management
Create Great Customer Experiences
  • Welcome every guest
  • Explain our activities, prices, and procedures
  • Help customers choose projects and experiences
  • Provide paint and technique demonstrations
  • Answer phones and customer questions
  • Process sales and bookings
  • Resolve routine concerns professionally
  • Encourage repeat visits, reviews, parties, classes, and group bookings
Support Parties and Events
  • Lead and assist with birthday parties
  • Support camps, workshops, field trips, showers, and group experiences
  • Prepare rooms and supplies
  • Communicate with hosts, parents, teachers, and organizers
  • Keep events organized and on schedule
  • Reset rooms after events
Maintain Studio Readiness
  • Keep guest areas clean, stocked, organized, and safe
  • Clean and reset tables, tools, shelves, sinks, and restrooms
  • Sweep, mop, dust, sanitize, and organize
  • Unpack shipments and stock products
  • Monitor inventory and supplies
  • Merchandise pottery and studio displays
  • Label, organize, glaze, wrap, and process customer pottery after training
  • Load and unload kilns after training and authorization
Help Grow the Business
  • Follow up on assigned customer inquiries
  • Promote relevant classes, parties, memberships, camps, clay, and wheel experiences
  • Help generate reviews, referrals, repeat visits, and bookings
  • Capture approved customer and studio content
  • Help promote upcoming events
  • Identify potential school, church, business, daycare, and group opportunities
  • Use slower periods productively
What Success Looks Like

A successful Studio Lead:

  • Provides warm, attentive customer service
  • Leads by example
  • Takes initiative
  • Remains productive during slow periods
  • Maintains a clean and guest-ready studio
  • Communicates clearly
  • Works well with children and adults
  • Supports and coaches employees
  • Solves routine problems
  • Follows systems and checklists
  • Helps increase bookings, sales, reviews, and repeat visits
  • Can lead assigned shifts with limited supervision
QualificationsRequired
  • Two or more years of leadership, supervisory, shift-lead, or management experience preferred
  • Two or more years of customer-service experience
  • Strong communication and organization skills
  • Ability to work professionally with children and adults
  • Ability to multitask in a customer-focused environment
  • Dependability and punctuality
  • Willingness to learn
  • Comfort speaking to individuals and groups
  • Basic comfort with point-of-sale, scheduling, email, digital checklists, and social media
  • Reliable transportation
  • High school diploma or equivalent work experience
