  • $14.00 hourly for Undergraduate-Level or $24.00 hourly for Graduate-Level, Non-Exempt (Eligible for overtime)

Purpose of Position

This is a part-time, non-benefited position. Only UND students are eligible to be hired in this position.

We are looking for up to two graduate or undergraduate students to work 10-16 hours/week during the Fall Semester 2026.

This work focuses on conducting research and performing laboratory experiments in the fields of rock geomechanics, geochemistry, chemistry, materials characterization, carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS), characterization of both conventional and unconventional resources, and enhanced oil recovery (EOR). The selected individual will work closely with EERC research scientists and engineers on different activities to achieve the responsibilities detailed below.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Assist in the planning and preparation of experimental tests.
  • Assist with experimental investigations and perform laboratory experiments.
  • Assist with laboratory data processing.
  • Summarize and present experimental findings and insights.
Required Competencies
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Ability to work independently in performance of everyday tasks.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand.
Minimum Requirements
  • Enrolled in Petroleum Engineering, Geology, Chemistry, or related field.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of fundamental principles of geology.
  • Knowledge of fundamental principles of chemistry.
  • Knowledge of applied reservoir engineering tests and common methodologies.
  • Experience with MS Office Suite, particularly MS Excel for data analysis and MS PowerPoint.
  • Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in Lab investigation tasks that focus on applied petroleum engineering related activities.
  • Hands-on experience with flow-through testing, particularly with coreflood instruments, is highly desirable.
  • Understanding of fundamental techniques in evaluating rock-fluid interactions, including but not limited to Interfacial Tension (IFT) measurement and wettability assessment.
  • Experience with laboratory testing of rocks.
  • Experience with analytical chemistry and testing procedures.
