Full-Time Faculty, Fashion Design
We are searching for an experienced Full-Time Faculty, Fashion Design at our Goldsmith Campus - Westchester campus.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
PRIMARY PURPOSE:
The Full-Time Faculty, Fashion Design Studio role is a renewable non-tenure track, full-time, and benefits-eligible position. The position requires a strong commitment to teaching Fashion Design Studio courses at the senior level.
Expectations include teaching six courses per year, providing college and departmental service, and maintaining an active and creative professional practice that informs the growth and development of the department and the students who study within it. The ideal candidate will be capable of developing curriculum, guiding students to contextualize their creative endeavors within larger cultural and professional frameworks. Candidates must demonstrate strong cross-cultural competencies and have the ability to speak to a diverse student body hailing from a wide range of backgrounds. Successful candidates must demonstrate an ability to work efficiently, cooperatively, and collaboratively in a team environment. This position reports to the Chair of Fashion Design.
CORE DUTIES andRESPONSIBILITIES:
• Full-Time Faculty are responsible for teaching effectively, pursuing ongoing professional achievement, and contributing service to their home department and the College. Fulfilling this work makes up 100% of their responsibilities. Specific responsibilities are likely to include:
• Teach courses as scheduled and in alignment with the mission and learning outcomes of the Department and College: Hold a full-time studio course load and perform service as noted.
• Participate in administrative duties such as writing syllabi, developing curricular materials, monitoring student attendance, documenting student learning, detailing program assessment, and submitting grades in a timely manner.
• Record attendance and grading in timely manner for students and the College's record keeping.
• Advise students outside of class hours regarding academic issues. Refer students to Student Affairs and other Campus resources, as needed.
• Provide guidance and direction to teaching assistants and part-time faculty. Schedule, assign, and prioritize workloads. Set appropriate deadlines. Monitor classroom studios.
• Participate in classroom set-ups.
• Serve up to 6 hours per week in service to the department and the College, as assigned by the Department Chair. Participate and contribute to College's shared governance system through Academic Assembly, Faculty Senate, Academic Assembly subcommittees, ad-hoc committees, and/or task forces focused on specific topics.
• Departmental service may include but is not limited to providing academic advising to departmental students, attending departmental meetings, organizing visiting artists & designer series for department, assisting chairs with scheduling courses and assigning physical resources, and representing department at internal and external events and occasions as assigned, and etc.
• Contribute to Program assessment as scheduled.
• Enhance the visibility of the department through on- and off-campus events.
• Maintain active creative and professional practices as well as continue active professional network.
• Demonstrate commitment to student success and a healthy classroom environment.
• Demonstrate professionalism and cooperation with colleagues.
• Adhere to the institutional policies and procedures.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues to achieve department and college goals through sustained efforts and initiatives.
• Performs other related duties as assigned. Must be responsive to work-related phone calls and emails during non-business hours on occasion.
Required Qualifications:
REQUIRED SKILLS and EDUCATION: (Non-negotiable;minimum requirements, skills, experience, certifications)
• 10-15years of industry experience as a first through production pattern maker isrequired. BFA in Design or a related field is preferred.
• Excellent interpersonaland collaborative skills.
• Demonstrated administrativeleadership skills successfully managing an academic and/or industry mentorprogram is required.
• Demonstrated teachingeffectiveness in the field of fashion. Must be able to teach at the Senior Studio,designer level from production pattern making to couture construction andfinishing to tailoring, etc. Knowledge of fine tailoring is an asset.
• Must be able to analyzeadvanced fashion illustrations (and/or flats) based on extensive knowledge offlat pattern drafting, draping, and garment construction.
• Must have an understandingof designer-level fashion sportswear, dresses, evening wear, couture fabrics,and their applications.
• Professional standing as aprofessional in the fashion community.
• Must be able to workcreatively and effectively with a diverse student body as part of a team ofprofessional designers/artists/educators.
