The successful candidate will possess deep technical expertise in diamond turning processes and will play a key role in supporting operational excellence, training, and problem-solving within the department.

Key Responsibilities

As a Lead Diamond Turning Technician, you will:

  • Set up, operate, and optimize Precitech 3-axis and 4-axis diamond turning machines to manufacture precision optical components and tooling.
  • Produce spherical, aspheric, and freeform optical surfaces, as well as nickel-plated mold inserts, to exact customer specifications.
  • Support process development, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement initiatives to improve yield, quality, throughput, and machine utilization.
  • Serve as a technical resource and subject matter expert for diamond turning operations.
  • Assist in training and mentoring technicians and operators on equipment, processes, and best practices.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, process documentation, and technical specifications.
  • Utilize DiffSys software and machine programming tools to support production and process optimization.
  • Perform and verify precision measurements using interferometers, profilometers, white-light interferometers, and other metrology equipment.
  • Conduct visual inspections in accordance with MIL-PRF-13830B, ISO 10110, and internal quality standards.

  • Ensure compliance with all safety, quality, and environmental requirements.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient work environment.
  • Support production schedules and business requirements, including overtime when necessary.

Qualifications Required

  • Minimum of 3 years of hands-on diamond turning experience in a precision manufacturing environment.
  • Experience setting up and operating Precitech 3-axis and 4-axis diamond turning equipment.
  • Experience with DiffSys software and machine programming.
  • Strong metrology experience using interferometers, profilometers, white-light interferometers, and related measurement systems.
  • Experience manufacturing precision optical components.
  • Working knowledge of MIL-PRF-13830B and ISO 10110 standards.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and work instructions.
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and computer skills.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively manage multiple priorities.
Qualifications Preferred
  • Experience manufacturing freeform optics and complex optical geometries.
  • Experience supporting process development and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Prior experience training or mentoring technicians.
