Position Overview

Kiewit is seeking a Telecommunications Field Engineer to support construction of telecommunications infrastructure on a largescale, missioncritical data center project in Abilene, Texas. This role is responsible for supporting field execution by coordinating work activities, tracking quantities and progress, assisting with quality control, and partnering closely with Superintendents, Project Managers, and trade partners to ensure telecom scopes are delivered safely, efficiently, and in compliance with project requirements.

The Telecommunications Field Engineer plays a critical role in bridging engineering, planning, and field operations in a fastpaced data center environment.

Location

This position will be based at one of our project sites across the U.S., with an office rotation at either our headquarters in Denver, CO or our area office in Lenexa, KS. Candidates must be open to relocating as needed.

Responsibilities

Field Support & Coordination

  • Support daily field operations for telecommunications and lowvoltage scopes, including fiber optic and copper cabling, pathways, racks, cabinets, and equipment installation.
  • Work directly with the Telecommunications Superintendent to plan daily activities, track progress, and address field issues.
  • Coordinate telecom work with electrical, mechanical, controls, and general construction teams to support proper sequencing and avoid conflicts.

Engineering & Documentation

  • Assist with review and distribution of drawings, specifications, RFIs, and submittals related to telecom scope.
  • Maintain accurate asbuilt documentation, installation records, and testing documentation.
  • Support layout, work packages, and installation planning as needed.

Quantity Tracking & Reporting

  • Track installed quantities and production rates for telecom work.
  • Assist with progress reporting, forecasting, and schedule updates.
  • Support material tracking and coordination to ensure timely deliveries.

Quality Control & Safety

  • Perform field inspections to verify work meets project specifications and industry standards (BICSI, TIA/EIA, NEC).
  • Assist with punch list development, issue tracking, and resolution.
  • Support safety initiatives by participating in safety meetings, JHAs, and site inspections, reinforcing Kiewit's safety culture.

Trade Partner & Crew Support

  • Interface with foremen, craft professionals, and subcontractors to support daily execution.
  • Help resolve installation issues and support productivity in the field.
  • Assist with testing, commissioning, and turnover activities related to telecom systems.
Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Technology, or related field OR equivalent field experience.
  • 1-5 years of experience in construction, preferably supporting telecommunications, lowvoltage, electrical, or data center projects.
  • Basic understanding of structured cabling systems, fiber optics, and telecom infrastructure.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fastpaced environment.
  • Willingness to work projectbased in Abilene, Texas, including extended hours as required.

Preferred

  • Experience supporting data center or missioncritical facilities.
  • Familiarity with telecom standards (BICSI, TIA/EIA) and construction documentation.
  • Experience working closely with superintendents and selfperform crews.
  • Proficiency with construction management tools, drawings, and reporting systems.
